BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - It was a record setting night for the Falcons as a new BGSU 200-yard freestyle relay time was set and two members of the swimming and diving squad swam their way to new personal best times.
Starting the meet off with a bang, the Falcon 200-yard freestyle relay team of Meg Richardson, Carrie Enright, Sarah Reinink and Sami Jordan smashed the current BGSU record of 1:35.17. Tonight's relay dropped three seconds off that time, setting the new BGSU record at 1:32.72.
Individual performers Alisha Yee and Richardson made their own splashes as each set new personal best times. Yee swam to a new personal best of 2:03.08 in the 200-yard IM, beating her previous time of 2:03.49; which was set at the 2008 MAC Championships. Richardson, in addition to being on the record-breaking relay team, also swam a new personal best in the 50-yard freestyle. Richardson first broke BGSU's top sprint time in December, sprinting in at 23.70 at the Ohio State Invitational. She swam to a new record tonight, clocking in at 23.43.
Throughout the night the Orange and Brown had other strong individual performances. Swimming alongside Yee in the 200-yard IM finals was sophomore Sarah Burston who finished in 12th and freshman Katie Womack who took 17th. Enright, Jordan and Reinink also swam the 50-yard freestyle sprint taking 17th, 18th, and 20th, respectively.
The young Diving Falcons took to the board in the one-meter dive in their first night of competition at the championships. Molly Wood took 21st with 180.15 points, followed by Katherine Shannon with 176.30 points and Stephanie Saliga in 24th with 112.85 points.
