Volleyball Hosts Annual Banquet April 5

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University volleyball team will host their annual postseason banquet on Sunday, April 5, at the Sky Bank Room in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union. The evening will begin with a social at 12:30 p.m. followed by a 1:00 p.m. dinner and program.
The cost to attend the volleyball banquet is $25 per person, additional options include sponsoring a player for $25.

The Falcons will honor their senior trio, Kendra Halm, Chelsey Meek and Meghan Mohr as well as relive and celebrate the 2008 season. The Falcon netters finished the season 25-9 overall and 12-4 in the MAC, the third consecutive season of 20 plus wins and fourth straight winning season. In their 25 wins the Falcons racked up two tournament championships at the Temple Invitational and the Marquette Challenge. The Falcons also had another strong showing on their home court with a 10-2 record in Anderson Arena. The Orange and Brown were undefeated at home in MAC play, which included a two-plus hour battle against the Ohio Bobcats that the Falcons won for their first victory over their MAC foe in the past 12 match-ups.
As a team and individually the Falcons set numerous records including a new team record for block assists in a three set match with 35 against Florida A&M (Oct. 30). Halm set three new records, block assists (13) and total blocks (14) in a three set match against Florida A&M (Oct. 30) and a new career best of 443 block assists in program history. Meek also set two new BG records along with a MAC and national record. She now holds the career record for digs in BG history and MAC history with 2,287. Meek also holds the record for digs in a season with 663 this past season and the all-time leader in the nation for consecutive matches of 10-plus dig with 91 straight matches.
Awards for the BG volleyball team also came in abundance as the Falcons had four players earn All-MAC honors. Halm was named first team All-MAC, while Meek, Mohr and Corey Domek were all named second team All-MAC. The Falcons also combined for 11 All-Tournament honors, including two MVPs and three MAC East Player of the Week awards. The Falcons were also recognized for their academics in 2008 as six players were earned Academic All-MAC honors. Halm, Meek and Mohr were all named to the Academic All-MAC team, while Sam Fish, Kaitlin Jackson and Shari Luther were all named Academic All-MAC honorable mention. Meek also earned two other academic honors as she was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District third team and a MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week.
