Wells Announces The Addition of Three to the Track and Field Program

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Bowling Green State University track and field head coach Cami Wells has announced that Janelle Campbell, Abby Koch and Brooke McCombs have signed National Letters of Intent. The trio will join the Falcons for the 2009-10 season.
"Brooke will be a very solid addition to the throws area of our program and be someone who can contribute in multiple events," said Wells. "Janelle will add depth to the our long jump and triple jump area and will also be looked to for a contributions on the track." Adding Abby, Brooke and Janelle to the 2009 recruiting class is another big step in the right direction as we work to add depth and balance to the team."
Abby Koch, Distance/Cross Country, Stow, Ohio (Stow)
High School: Will graduate from Stow High School in June .... has run personal bests of 5:12 for 1600m, 11:02 for the 3200m in track and 18:14 in the 5000m in cross country ... holds four school records for the 1600m, 3200m, 5000m and as a member of the 4 X 800m relay team that ran 9:20 ... coached by John Roseman and Aaron Morris ... placed 8th in the 2008 Division I Ohio State Cross Country Meet ... was runner-up in 2008 Tiffin Regional Cross Country Meet ... placed ninth in the 3200m at the 2008 Division I Ohio State Track & Field Meet ... placed 10th in the 2007 Division I Ohio State Cross Country Meet ... placed 11th in the 3200m at the 2007 Ohio State Track & Field Meet ... placed 14th at the 2006 Ohio State Cross Country Meet. Personal: Born May 20, 1991 ... daughter of Lisa and Rob Koch ... has a brother, Andrew and sister, Annaleigh ... majoring in speech pathology with a minor in spanish.
"I am thrilled to have Abby joining the program," said Wells. "Abby has established herself as one of the top long distance runners in the state over the past three years. Abby has been consistent and put up very impressive stats during her high school career. Adding Abby to the team really solidifies the cross country roster for the fall and I expect her to be able to come in and have an immediate impact in the long distance events on the track as well. Abby's impressive athletic accomplishments are matched by her commitment in the classroom. Abby is a 4.0 student at Stow and will be an asset to the team in every area."

High School: Will graduate from Blackhawk High School this June ... set personal-bests in the long jump (18-2.25), triple jump (36-02) and 200-meters (25.90) as a junior ... was a 2007 USATF National Finalist in the triple jump ... finished second at Regionals in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump ... in 2008 she was a PIAA finalist in the long jump, where she placed seventh ... was a USATF National Junior Olympic finalist in the long jump, finishing second ... also lettered in basketball and cheerleading. Personal: Born Oct. 9, 1990 ... daughter of Tony and Lynne Campbell ... has two sisters (Jasmine and Jada) ... currently undecided on a major.
"Janelle is an extremely versatile athlete who has the ability to make an immediate impact in our jumps and sprints group," said assistant coach Jody Stewart. "Janelle thrives off of hard work and competition, which makes her a great fit for our program.
Brooke McCombs, Throws, Bucyrus, Ohio (Wynford)
High School: Will graduate from Wynford High School this May ... has personal-bests of 143-05 in the discus and 38-10 in the shot put ... was the 2008 District Champion in the discus ... finished eighth at Districts in the shot put ... helped lead her team to back-to-back NCC Championships ... team captain ... in 2007 she was her conference champion in both the discus and shot put ... that same year she captured the District Championship in the discus ... finished fourth at State in same event ... also lettered in basketball. Personal: Born Nov. 17, 1990 ... daughter of Duane and Robin McCombs ... has two brothers (Nathan, Nick) and one sister (Whitney) ... plans to major in nursing.
"I am looking forward to coaching Brooke, she is a well rounded student-athlete with a great personality," said assistant coach Justin Carvalho. "Brooke is an established discus thrower who will solidify our discus group. I am also confident that she will be able to excel in the hammer and the weight as well as the shot put, and in time develop in to a multiple event scorer."
