BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (BGSUFalcons.com) - Two Bowling Green State University women's basketball standouts picked up major awards as the BGSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics held its annual Athletic Honors Night over the weekend. Senior Lindsey Goldsberry and junior Laura Bugher, two of the 12 women's basketball student-athletes who were invited to the event, earned some of the most prestigious honors handed out by the department.
Goldsberry was the female recipient of the Falcon Medal of Honor, while Bugher was the Falcon Club's female Junior Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
The Athletic Honors Night is an annual event where various student-athletes and teams at the University are honored for their success throughout the year. Former men's basketball player Dr. Crystal "Boo" Ellis served as the keynote speaker for the 2009 event. A total of 201 student-athletes were honored for holding a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 or higher, along with 16 (including Bugher) that have a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA.
Goldsberry, along with Falcon football player Sinisa Vrvilo, was awarded the Falcon Medal of Honor, while Bugher and football's Craig Rutherford were named Falcon Club Junior Scholar Athletes of the Year. Men's soccer's Ryan Davis and softball's Hayley Wiemer were chosen as the Senior Scholar Athletes of the Year.

Goldsberry finished 11th in the MAC in steals and had an assist/turnover ratio of 2.08. BGSU won 114 games -- the most of any MAC school in a four-year span -- since her arrival on campus in the fall of 2005, and the Falcons went 59-5 in MAC regular-season games during her four years. 'Golds' ended her career with a total of 216 steals, ranking fifth in BGSU history. She had over 60 steals in each of her last three seasons.
In the classroom, Goldsberry has a 3.85 cumulative grade-point average as an early childhood education major.
Bugher, from Greenwood, Ind. (Lutheran H.S.), played in 21 games off the bench in 2008-09, helping the Falcons to the third MAC regular-season title in her three years with the program. She averaged 0.8 points and 0.8 rebounds per game on the season, and has averaged just over a point per game, along with 1.2 rebounds per contest, in 65 career games.
Since Bugher came to BGSU in the fall of 2006, the Falcons have posted an overall record of 86-17, for an average of 28.7 wins per season. Only two teams in MAC history have won more than 28 games in a season: the 2006-07 Falcons, who won a MAC-record 31 games en route to an NCAA 'Sweet Sixteen' berth in Bugher's freshman (and Goldsberry's sophomore) year; and this year's 29-5 club that advanced to the third round of the WNIT.
Bugher maintains a 4.00 grade point average in early childhood education.
A total of 12 student-athletes on the 15-woman roster were invited to the Athletic Honors Banquet, based on their cumulative GPAs.
