Bowling Green went 25-9 in 2008 and finished second in the MAC East
Bowling Green, Ohio - The Bowling Green volleyball program released its 2009 schedule Friday featuring 16 Mid-American Conference games to go with four pre-conference tournaments that should test the team.
Head coach Denise Van De Walle, entering her 27th season as leader of the Falcons, has a schedule that will prepare the team early before heading into MAC play in late September. The team finished second in the MAC East in 2008 and Van De Walle needs just 13 wins to reach 500 for her career. Her 487 career victories are easily the most in MAC history.
"Our 2009 schedule is another great one," Van De Walle said. "We're playing a wide variety of teams to get us ready for the MAC, including five teams with RPI's better than 65. We're playing teams from the Big Ten and the Big 12, as well as perennial powerhouse Northern Iowa and Northeast Conference champion Robert Morris. We have our work cut out for us, but it will be a good test of our young team to see how we are progressing."
Bowling Green will open the season Aug. 28-29 at the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational in Western Pennsylvania and will then head south to play in the New Orleans Invitational Sept. 4-5.
Falcon fans will get their first look at the team when Bowling Green hosts the Best Western Falcon Plaza Invitational Sept. 11-12. The team will then play its final regular season tournament in the Ohio State Invitational Sept. 18-19. The Falcons host one last game before MAC play begins, meeting Oakland Sept. 22
Akron and Buffalo will visit Bowling Green on back-to-back days to kick off conference action Sept. 25-26. After 16 conference games and a non-conference battle with Cleveland State sprinkled in, the Falcons will begin conference tournament action Nov. 17.
