Bowling Green Picked To Finish Third In MAC Volleyball Poll
August 26, 2009 | Volleyball
Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University volleyball team was picked to finish third in the East Division in the Mid-American Conference Volleyball Preseason Poll by vote of the league's coaches.
The Falcons finished second in the MAC East a year ago, completing a 25-9 season with a 12-4 league mark. Bowling Green lost three key seniors from that squad but will be led by three more seniors this year in Corey Domek, Kaitlin Jackson, and Shari Luther. Domek is the most decorated returner, having been named second-team all-conference twice in her career.
Ohio was selected as the East Division preseason favorite, followed by Miami. After Bowling Green, Akron was fourth and Kent State and Buffalo rounded out the division. Western Michigan was picked to win the West Division, followed by Ball State, Northern Illinois, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, and Toledo.
Head coach Denise Van De Walle begins her 27th season at the helm of the Bowling Green volleyball program Friday at the Duquesne/Robert Morris Invitational in Western Pennsylvania. Van De Walle sits at 487 career victories, needing just 13 more to become the only coach in conference history to reach 500. The Falcons' home opener will be Sept. 11 when the team hosts the Best Western Falcon Plaza Invitational.
