Falcons Bounce Back To Defeat Texas Tech

New Orleans, La. – The Bowling Green State University volleyball team bounced back from its first loss of the year to defeat Texas Tech Saturday afternoon in the second match of the Radisson New Orleans Airport Privateer Invitational 20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-18. After dropping the opening set, the Falcons dominated play and rolled to the win.
The Falcons were extremely crisp offensively in the final two sets, hitting .433 and .481 to put a stranglehold on the match. Texas Tech, on the other hand, after playing one of its best sets of the season by hitting .300 in the first, was shut down by the Bowling Green defense.
BGSU held a 48-34 advantage in digs and Kaitlin Jackson and Alex Zlabis had 16 digs apiece, keeping the Red Raiders offense from clicking. The Falcons also had 6.0 blocks on the afternoon.
After Texas Tech won the opening set, the two teams were evenly matched in the second as well with the score tied 18-18. The Falcons scored the next four points on four kills, two from senior Corey Domek, and added an Emily Kauth service ace to pull away.
Bowling Green cruised through the third set, leading by as many as nine points, and then jumped out to a quick lead in the fourth set and never looked back.
Domek ended with a match-high 19 kills and Kauth added 15, four blocks, and two aces. Shari Luther had 12 kills and a .478 attack percentage and Allison Kearney handed out 52 assists. Jackson had nine kills to go with her 16 digs.
With the loss, Texas Tech falls to 1-4 on the season. Bowling Green improves to 5-1 and will complete the tournament against Southeastern Louisiana at 5 p.m.
