With the win, the Wildcats -- who are receiving votes in the national polls -- improve to 2-0-0 on the young season, while the Falcons drop to 1-2-0.
Sophomore Byard Ebling scored the Falcons' goal. Ebling and senior Tyler Deal were named to the UK Invite's all-tournament team.
The Wildcats got goals from Matt Lodge, Tim Crone, Tyler Burns and Jason Griffiths in the win. UK held a 24-4 advantage in shots for the match.
"Today was disappointing because we didn't compete," said Falcon head coach Eric Nichols. "But, we did learn valuable lessons about ourselves, and about what it is going to take to win games."
Lodge got the 'Cats on the board first with a goal in the 17th minute. Tim Muessig played the ball to Lodge in the center of the box, and Lodge beat a Falcon defender and fired a shot that was just out of the reach of redshirt freshman goalkeeper Jeff Smoker.
Crone, a transfer from BGSU, doubled UK's lead at the 40:35 mark. After UK goalkeeper Dan Williams booted a ball deep into BG territory, Crone lofted the ball up over the head of a Falcon defender as well as Smoker. Williams picked up the assist on the play.
Burns took a pass from Cameron Wilder and scored in the 57th minute of the match, while Griffiths found the net at the 72:48 mark. The latter goal came after a bicycle-kick attempt by Marco dos Santos, with Griffiths scooping up the misfire and putting it home.
The Falcons got on the board at 83:36, as freshman Joey D'Agostino found Ebling with a crossing ball. Ebling fielded it about 15 yards out and put it past Williams and into the back of the net. For Ebling, the goal was his first of the season and the third of his career. For D'Agostino, playing in just his second game as a Falcon, the goal was his first collegiate point.
UK had eight shots on goal to the Falcons' two. Williams was credited with one save in picking up the victory. For the Falcons, Smoker and freshman Dylan Schoettley each played 45 minutes, each allowed a pair of goals and each had two saves.
UK's Burns, dos Santos, Griffiths and Lodge were named to the UKIT All-Tournament Team, joining Deal and Ebling. Louisville's Phil Edginton, Andre Boudreaux, Othaniel Yanez and Austin Berry, along with IUPUI's Derek Craig and Michael Wignot, rounded out the team.
"We will move forward," said Nichols. "I am confident in that, and I am confident that we will work hard this week and be better the next time out."
The Falcons will return home to prepare for next weekend's trip to Pittsburgh, Pa., for the Duquesne Invitational. BGSU will face Richmond as well as the host school.
