October 04, 2010 | Volleyball
Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green State University freshman right side hitter Danielle Tonyan was named Mid-American Conference East Division Offensive Player of the Week Monday afternoon. It marks the third consecutive week that a BGSU freshman has received a MAC weekly award.
Tonyan hit .443 on the week, totaling 40 kills in two matches and setting a new career high in both of the team's contests during the past week.
She opened the week with a personal best 17 kills in a four-set loss to Miami (Ohio) Thursday night, hitting .367 (17 kills, 6 errors, 30 attempts) and adding two digs and a block. Tonyan followed that up with 23 kills in just three sets against Western Michigan, hitting .500 (23-3-40). Bowling Green had set points in all three frames against WMU, a team considered a favorite to win the MAC, but was unable to capitalize.
On the season, Tonyan ranks second on the team with 161 kills (2.64 per set) and her .208 attack percentage is also second among all players with at least 100 attack attempts.
Tonyan is the third BGSU freshman in a row to be honored by the MAC. Ashley Dunn and Paige Penrod were named MAC East Division Defensive Players of the Week on each of the past two Mondays.
