Leady, Lines Named Papa John's Athletes Of The Week
April 13, 2010 | Baseball, General, Softball
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Papa John's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners baseball pitcher Kevin Leady (for the second consecutive week) and softball pitcher Zada Lines.
Male Athlete of the Week
Kevin Leady, a senior from Luckey, Ohio, won his third straight decision in the Falcons' 9-3 victory over Ball State Sunday afternoon, working seven innings and allowing just three hits and six total base runners. After allowing two runs in the first, Leady settled down and retired 14 straight Cardinal hitters. He finished the day with seven punchouts.
Female Athlete of the Week
Zada Lines, a junior from Akron, Ohio, picked up both wins as the BGSU softball team swept Toledo during the weekend. She threw four innings of no-hit relief in Saturday's 3-1 win, walking one batter and striking out four. She then followed that up with a complete game Sunday in a 9-1, five-inning victory. She also helped her own cause at the plate in that contest by hitting a home run. For the weekend, she had a 0.78 ERA with three walks, 13 strikeouts and just five hits allowed in nine innings.
