September 27, 2010 | Volleyball
Cleveland, Ohio – Bowling Green State University freshman left side hitter Paige Penrod was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Defensive Player of the Week Monday.
Penrod is the second consecutive BGSU player to earn the award. Freshman libero Ashley Dunn was honored last week.
In the team's conference opener against Akron Friday night, Penrod had 15 digs and two blocks to go with nine kills. She followed that up with a career-high 19 digs in a five-set win over Buffalo the next evening. She added 14 kills and three blocks in that victory.
Penrod has been Bowling Green's most consistent and effective offensive threat throughout the team's first 16 matches but has also been solid defensively in her first season with the Orange and Brown. She leads the team in kills (169 for 3.02 per set), ranks second in digs (146 for 2.61 per set), and is third on the team with 11 service aces and 20 blocks.
Bowling Green is 6-10 overall on the year and 1-1 in MAC play. The Falcons host Miami Thursday night at 7 p.m. and Western Michigan Saturday night at 7 p.m. The match with Western Michigan is Alumnae Day and the All-Anderson Team will be recognized at the contest.
