The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team fell 188.675-186.600 in DeKalb, Ill., to fellow Mid-American Conference opponent Northern Illinois. The Falcons are now 1-1 on the young season and 0-1 in conference play.
Despite the loss, the Falcons did come away with three individual crowns, led by sophomore Sunny Marchand, who finished first on the vault (9.750) and floor (9.750). Monica Eaton was the top competitor on the uneven bars with a score of 9.775.
With the two teams nearly even on vault (NIU led 47.100-46.750) and the Falcons out tumbling the Huskies on floor (47.775-46.125) the difference of the meet could be found on bars and beam.
The Falcons posted a modest 46.625 on the uneven bars, but NIU posted a 48.000. The same happened on beam with the Huskies scoring a full two points higher (47.450-45.450) over the Orange and Brown on the single event.
Up next for the Falcons will be a tri-meet with Western Michigan and Ohio State on Sunday, Jan. 30 inside Anderson Arena on the campus of Bowling Green. The meet is scheduled for 2 p.m.
