Falcons open home portion of MAC schedule by taking on the RedHawks
The Bowling Green State University women's basketball team, after playing four of the last five games on the road, returns to Northwest Ohio for a brief two-game homestand ... the Falcons of head coach Curt Miller will open the home portion of the Mid-American Conference schedule with a Saturday (Jan. 8) game vs. Miami University ... tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at venerable Anderson Arena (3,500) ... the Falcons have won 13 consecutive games after a season-opening loss ... Miller and his staff returned 10 letterwinners, including three starters, from last year's 27-7 team that won the MAC regular-season and tournament titles and advanced to the NCAA Championships.

Heading into Saturday's Miami game, the Falcons are 6-3 in MAC home-opening games in the Curt Miller Era ... THE MAC SCHEDULE
The 2010-11 season is the sixth utilizing the current MAC scheduling format for women's basketball ... each of the 12 schools opens conference action with five intra-divisional games, followed by six cross-divisional games and five more intra-divisional contests to close the regular season ... so, BGSU plays five games vs. East Division schools to begin and end the MAC season, with six games vs. the West Division teams in the middle of the league schedule.

The Falcons were picked to win both the MAC's East Division and the conference tournament titles in 2011, according to the league's preseason poll ... BGSU received 43 of the 48 votes to win the East ... BG has won six consecutive MAC regular-season titles outright, and the Falcons have won four of the last six MAC Tournament crowns, including the 2010 title ... BEST START IN SCHOOL HISTORY
The Falcons' 13-1 record marks the best start in school history ... the 2005-06 team began the year with a 9-1 mark, but lost the season's 11th game, in overtime at Kentucky ... that '05-06 club then proceeded to win the next 19 games to advance to the NCAA Championships.
PROCHASKA RANKS SECOND ON BGSU CAREER SCORING LIST
Senior Lauren Prochaska, 14 games into her senior season, resides in second place on the BGSU career scoring list, and is nearing the 2,000-point milestone ... Prochaska has a total of 1,982 points in 116 career games ... she trails only Jackie Motycka (2,122 points from 1985-89) ... Prochaska moved past Ali Mann (1,825 points from 2003-07) in the win over Seattle in late November ... Prochaska is averaging 17.1 points per game, the second-highest average in BGSU annals, in her storied Falcon career.
PONTIUS ALSO RESIDES IN THE TOP 20
With her first basket this season (in the opener at Evansville on Nov. 12), senior Tracy Pontius surpassed the 1,000-point mark for her career ... Pontius became the 24th player to reach the milestone ... heading into the Miami game, Pontius has a total of 1,180 points as a Falcon ... over 1,000 of those points have come since the start of her sophomore season ... Pontius has moved into 18th place on the BGSU scoring list, having passed Andrea Nordmann (1,164 points) in the Butler game ... her next target is 17th-place Jacki Raterman (1,213 points).

THREE-MENDOUS! MANY FALCONS CONNECTING FROM DOWNTOWN
Seniors Lauren Prochaska and Tracy Pontius are certainly not the only Falcons with the capability to score from beyond the arc ... no fewer than 12 different players have hit at least one three-point field goal this season ... and, two of the three players on the active roster who have not made a triple – senior Chelsea Albert and freshman Jill Stein – have not attempted one.
HOLDING ON TO THE BALL
• The Falcons have been successful at limiting turnovers this season ... as of the latest NCAA rankings (Monday, Jan. 3), BGSU was third in the nation in fewest turnovers per game (13.3) ... that average is at 13.4 after Wednesday's Ohio game ... in each of the Falcons' 13 wins, the Falcons have committed fewer turnovers than the opponents.
• BG and Evansville each coughed the ball up 19 times in the Falcons' lone loss, in the season opener ... BGSU committed no more than 15 turnovers in any game over the next nine contests, before turning it over 17 times at Austin Peay ... the Falcons had only 12 turnovers in both the Canisius and Butler games, and 14 at Ohio.

BGSU, is ranked among the national leaders in several categories, according to the latest NCAA statistics (released Monday, Jan. 3) ... the Falcons were second in the nation in free-throw percentage, and BG is ranked in the top-10 in the nation in no fewer than three other team categories ... BG was third in the nation in fewest turnovers per game (13.3), sixth in three-point field goals made per game (8.4) and ninth in win-loss percentage (92.3%) ... additionally, the Falcons were ranked 15th in the nation in scoring margin (+21.0) and 18th in assist/turnover ratio (1.08).
MAC OPENERS UNDER MILLER
After the win over Ohio, the Falcons are now 8-2 in MAC openers under Curt Miller, and BG has won seven straight league lid lifters since a 72-70 home loss to Ball State in January of 2004 ... the Falcons have gone 8-2 in conference road openers under Miller, and BGSU has won the first MAC road game of the season in each of the last eight years ... BG's last loss in the MAC road opener came at Northern Illinois, 78-58, on Jan. 11, 2003.

• The Falcons' lone junior is Jessica Slagle, who played in every game last season ... BG has a pair of redshirt sophomores in Maribeth Giese and Danielle Havel ... Havel sat out the entire campaign after transferring from DePaul University.

LAST TIME OUT
The Falcons opened the MAC schedule by gutting out a 66-54 win over a hard-working Ohio squad Wednesday night (Jan. 5) in Athens ... senior Lauren Prochaska led all players with 23 points, while classmate Maggie Hennegan had 16 points, her highest total as a Falcon ... Ohio's Tenishia Benson had 13 points to pace three double-digit scorers for the home team ... the Falcons got off to a slow start, with two missed shots and an offensive foul on the first three possessions of the night ... the Bobcats scored the first four points of the game before Hennegan got herself to the foul line and hit a pair of tosses to get BG on the board ... a few minutes later, Hennegan's short jumper began a 7-0 run for the Brown and Orange ... senior Jen Uhl hit a three-pointer and senior Chelsea Albert followed with a one-handed bank shot for a 14-12 lead, BG's first of the night ... OU tied the score, but another 7-0 run put the visitors back in front for good ... Hennegan scored four points in that stretch, sandwiched around a three-pointer by redshirt soph Danielle Havel ... the Falcons had a four-point lead at the half, and BG extended the lead to double figures with a pair of transition baskets early in the period ... both Prochaska and senior Tracy Pontius went coast to coast and hit shots, resulting in a 38-28 lead ... midway through the period, the Falcons hit three three-pointers – two from Prochaska and one from Uhl – in a span of just 1:33 ... that flurry gave the visitors a 53-36 lead ... Ohio had one final run left in them, getting within single digits with 4:24 left, but a five-point possession by the Falcons salted away the victory.

MU dropped a 76-62 decision at Kent State in Wednesday's conference opener ... the RedHawks are just one win away from matching the team's total for all of last season ... The Falcons lead Miami, 41-25, in the all-time series between the teams, and BGSU has won the last three meetings ... last year, the Falcons won three games vs. the RedHawks, with an 85-65 triumph inside Anderson Arena (Jan. 19, 2010), a 63-58 win in Oxford (March 2, 2010) and a 91-58 victory in Cleveland, in the quarterfinal round of the MAC Tournament (March 10, 2010) ... Miami has won two of the last seven meetings with BGSU, after the Falcons had captured seven-straight games from MU ... PROCHASKA SETS AN NCAA RECORD
Most people couldn't make 70 consecutive layups in an empty gym ... senior Lauren Prochaska, however, set an NCAA Division-I record by hitting 70 consecutive shots from 15 feet away ... Prochaska was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line in the Falcons' win at Western Kentucky on Dec. 9, setting the record in the process ... Prochaska had broken her own BGSU record of 45-straight shots from the stripe in the Vanderbilt game (Dec. 1), then surpassed the Mid-American Conference mark in the win over Cal State Fullerton in the following game (Dec. 4).
LAUREN IS AMONG THE NATIONAL LEADERS ...
Senior Lauren Prochaska is seventh in the nation in free-throw percentage, according to the latest NCAA statistics, released Monday (Jan. 3) ... Prochaska had made 84 free throws in 89 attempts at the time, good for a success rate of 94.4 percent ... she went 6-for-6 from the line at Ohio to increase her seasonal FT pct. to 94.7% ... Prochaska finished fifth in the nation in free-throw pct. last year (shooting 89.9% from the stripe) after leading the entire country as a sophomore (93.3%) ... Prochaska was 12th in the nation (86.7%) as a freshman in the 2007-08 season.

In the latest NCAA statistics, as mentioned, senior Lauren Prochaska ranked seventh in the country in free-throw percentage ... her teammates are doing just fine in that department as well, thanks ... as a team, the Falcons were ranked second in the nation in free-throw pct. in the latest rankings ... BGSU was shooting 80.6 percent from the stripe, trailing only Milwaukee (82.0%) in that category ... after the Ohio game, BG's team percentage is 80.3% ... the Falcons shot 75.3% from the line last season, ranking second in the MAC and 22nd in the country ... two years ago, BG was fourth in the nation with a 79.4% rate.
PROCHASKA AT THE STRIPE
Senior Lauren Prochaska continues to rewrite BGSU's free-throw records – and, for the most part, they were records that she already owned ...
• Prochaska topped her own single-game mark in the win over UALR on Nov. 26, shooting a perfect 15-for-15 from the stripe ... her 'old' mark was 13-for-13, set last season against Miami (Jan. 19, 2010) ... over the last month or so, Prochaska has made 10 free throws vs. both Detroit and Vanderbilt and eight vs. Fullerton.
• As mentioned earlier, Prochaska has broken the BGSU, MAC and NCAA Division-I records for consecutive free throws made ... her recently-ended streak of 70 in a row marks the third time Prochaska has made over 30-straight free throws in her BGSU career.
70 IS A MAGIC NUMBER
BGSU has scored 70 or more points in 10 of the season's first 14 games, and the Falcons have posted a perfect 10-0 mark in those contests ... at the other end of the court, the Falcons have held all 14 foes under 70 points this year to date ... BG, obviously, is 13-1 in those games.
UHL BE SWELL, UHL BE GREAT
Senior Jen Uhl had 10 points in the Falcons' win at Butler, her sixth double-figure scoring total in a seven-game span ... she had eight points at Ohio in the MAC opener ... after scoring a total of 19 points over BG's first six games, Uhl has scored 102 in the last eight (an average of 12.8 ppg in that time) ... she has more than doubled her season scoring average, from 3.2 ppg to 8.6 ppg, over that eight-game span.
PONTIUS MOVING UP BGSU ASSISTS LIST
Senior Tracy Pontius had a career-high 10 assists in the win over Fullerton (Dec. 4), in the process moving past Judit Lendvay (304 from 1989-93) into eighth place in school history ... heading into the Miami game, Pontius now has a career total of 331 assists.
