October 20, 2011 | Volleyball
Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University Department of Athletics will honor volleyball head coach Denise Van De Walle during the volleyball team's match against Ohio on Oct. 29 and will hold a reception in her honor on Dec. 10.
Van De Walle, in her 29th season as head coach of the BGSU volleyball team, has announced that she will retire following the conclusion of the 2011 season.
Throughout the Oct. 29 match against Ohio which begins at 3 p.m., there will be video interviews with Van De Walle and well-wishes from many around the country who have been impacted by her. There will also be a post-match ceremony and fans will be invited on the floor to talk with Van De Walle.
The department will also hold a reception in her honor in the Stroh Center Hall of Fame lobby on Dec. 10 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. This event is open and free to the public but fans are asked to RSVP for the reception to bgsuathletics@bgsu.edu.
The longest tenured active coach at Bowling Green, Van De Walle enters the weekend with a Mid-American Conference record 524 career wins. She has been named MAC Coach of the Year four times, taking the team to its only NCAA Tournament appearance in 1991. She has 13 20-win campaigns and a 30-win season in 1992. This year's team is 16-6 on the season and had the best start in program history by winning 12 in a row to open the season.
The BGSU Department of Athletics would like to invite fans and alumni to join us as we celebrate Van De Walle's 29 seasons as head coach.
