Bowling Green Chosen To Host 2013 Men’s Ice Hockey Regional
October 05, 2011 | Ice Hockey
The NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Committee announced today the four regional sites for the 2013 tournament.
The East Regional will be held at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I. and hosted by Brown University, the Northeast Regional will be held at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H. and hosted by the University of New Hampshire, the Midwest Regional will be held at the Huntington Center in Toledo, Ohio and hosted by Bowling Green State University and the West Regional will be held at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Mich. and be hosted by the University of Michigan. Game dates and times have not been finalized, but will be held between March 29-31.
“The committee has placed an emphasis in the regional rounds on neutral-site buildings with NHL-size ice surfaces,” said NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Committee Chairman Sean Frazier. “All of these facilities meet those standards, and we feel the arenas and hosts will be able to provide a tremendous championship opportunity for the student-athletes.”
The Dunkin' Donuts Center, formerly known as the Providence Civic Center, will be hosting its ninth NCAA Men's Ice Hockey tournament competition, but first since 2003. It has hosted the Frozen Four six times, and this will be the third time it has hosted regional competition. The Verizon Wireless Arena will be hosting its fourth regional, all of which have been since 2004.
"We are thrilled that the NCAA has chosen us to host a 2013 NCAA Hockey Regional," Director of Athletics Greg Christopher said. "This is a great opportunity to showcase Bowling Green State University, our hockey program, and all of Northwest Ohio during the event."
This will be the first NCAA Championship competition of any kind to be held at the Huntington Center, while Van Andel Arena will be hosting regional competition for the seventh time, the last of which was in 2009.
