BGSU Completes Sweep at No. 16 Michigan Tech with 4-3 Overtime Win
February 28, 2026 | Ice Hockey
HOUGHTON, Mich. – Jackson Niedermayer slapped a saved Ben Doran shot past the goalie 49 seconds into overtime to lift the Bowling Green Falcons (18-9-7, 15-7-4 CCHA) past the No. 16 Michigan Tech Huskies (21-12-3, 16-7-3 CCHA) on Saturday night, 4-3, inside the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena. The win completed the series sweep.
Since BGSU won in overtime, it earns two of the three possible CCHA points for the game. The Falcons finish the regular season with 49 points, tied with Michigan Tech. Because BGSU and Michigan Tech only played the two games this weekend, head-to-head does not apply unless four games are played. The tiebreaker then becomes regulation CCHA wins, which Michigan Tech holds over BGSU, 13-12.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Quinn Emerson put BGSU up 3:47 into the game when Ty Higgins caught him streaking in transition. Noah Morneau picked up the second assist.
• Later in the first period, the Falcons appeared to score on a Brody Waters putback to make it 2-0. But after a Michigan Tech challenge, Waters was ruled to have the heel of his skate in the crease before the initial shot, overturning the goal and keeping the game at 1-0.
• The Falcons were tagged with back-to-back penalties early in the second period, and the Huskies quickly scored on the 5-on-3 opportunity to tie the game, 1-1, just 2:41 into the frame.
• Michigan Tech took its first lead of the night nearly three minutes later on a cross-ice pass that Teydon Trembecky finished.
• With 6:54 left in the second period, the Falcons scored a power-play goal when Gustav Stjernberg ripped one off assists from Ben Doran and Breck McKinley, tying the game at 2-2.
• Michigan Tech responded with a goal with 4:05 left in the second period to take a 3-2 lead.
• The Falcons tied the game, 3-3, just 3:54 into the third period. Noah Morneau won a faceoff cleanly in the offensive zone and sent it to Tyler Hotson, who scored from near the goal-line extended.
• BGSU won overtime's opening faceoff to set up the game-winning goal sequence.
