Falcon Defense Clamps Down in 1-0 Win at No. 16 Michigan Tech
February 27, 2026 | Ice Hockey
HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Bowling Green Falcons (17-9-7, 14-7-4 CCHA) used a second-period goal by Dominik Rymon and a shutdown defensive effort to beat the No. 16 Michigan Tech Huskies (21-11-3, 16-6-3 CCHA) on Friday night, 1-0, inside the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena.
The shutout was just the second time this season the Huskies have been shut out and the first since losing to then-No. 14 Minnesota State on Nov. 21 (3-0).
BGSU picked up three key CCHA points to stay in the mix for home ice in the CCHA Mason Cup Quarterfinals. BGSU enters the final day of the regular season with 47 points. Augustana, which is idle this week, is No. 1 with 50. St. Thomas, Michigan Tech and Minnesota State are tied for second with 48 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Falcons dented the scoreboard 4:31 into the second period when Rymon ripped a rolling puck top shelf, off-hand. Gustave Stjernberg collected an errant puck in the defensive zone and found Dalton Norris, who skipped it up to Rymon for the game's lone goal.
• The Falcons faced back-to-back penalties to close the second period, including a brief 5-on-3 power play for the Huskies. BGSU persevered as Palmer made 13 saves in the second period.
• BGSU blocked 42.8 percent of Michigan Tech's shots that were not saved.
FALCON NOTES
• Tyler Palmer had a career-high 30 saves.
• It was Palmer's first career NCAA shutout. He had four last year with the University of Alberta.
• Dominik Rymon has scored BGSU's only goals in each of the Falcons' last two games.
• BGSU has a 1-0 road win over a ranked team for the second time in the last three road contests. The Falcons also won 1-0 at then-No. 18 Augustana on Feb. 13.
NEXT UP
• BGSU concludes the regular season on Saturday at No. 16 Michigan Tech. Puck drop is 6:07 p.m.
