Danielle Tonyan Named First Team All-MAC
November 17, 2011 | Volleyball
Cleveland, Ohio – Bowling Green sophomore right side Danielle Tonyan has been named First Team All-MAC, by voting of the 12 head coaches of the Mid-American Conference. Tonyan has been one of the most lethal hitters in the conference this year.
Bowling Green has been the most improved team in the MAC this year with a record of 19-11 overall and Tonyan has been the driving force behind that improvement. She leads the team with 407 kills this year, an average of 3.80 per set, to rank third in the MAC. Tonyan also averages a team-best 4.20 points per set, which is fourth in the conference. Her .298 attack rate is a large improvement over her .210 hitting percentage from a year ago.
Tonyan is the first Bowling Green player to be named first team All-MAC since Shari Luther in 2009. She is the 16th Falcon to earn the award and it is the 25th time a Bowling Green player has brought home the honor.
Bowling Green will compete in the MAC Tournament quarterfinals Friday at 4:30 p.m. as the No. 8 seed against No. 1 seed Northern Illinois. The Falcons and Huskies went to five sets less than a week ago in the final regular season contest of the year.
