The Falcons took an early 5-0 lead in the second inning, highlighted by a Clay Duncan (Norwalk, Ohio) three-run homerun to left field. It was the first home run hit by any Falcon this season.
The Brown and Orange added a second five-spot in the fifth inning, all on unearned runs. The Falcons had the bases loaded with two outs but an error by Mount Saint Mary second baseman, Tony Quaranta, extended the inning. Matt Pitzulo (Poland, Ohio) made him pay with a two RBI double to left field, followed by Frank Berry (Virginia Beach, Vir.) knocking home two more on a single to center field. At the end of the fifth, the Falcons lead 10-1.
After Mount pitching walked the bases loaded, leadoff hitter Logan Walker (Richmond, Vir.) drew the third walk of the inning to force home another run and was followed by Pitzulo adding two more RBI to his stat line with a single to left field.
Bowling Green added another three runs in the seventh inning, taking a 16-2 lead at that point. Run scoring singles from freshmen Alex Davison (Grand Ledge, Mich.), Andrew Kubuski (Elyria, Ohio) and Brandon Howard (Cincinnati, Ohio) accounted for the final three BGSU runs.
Redshirt-junior Patrick Martin (Oregon, Ohio) earned the start and went four innings, allowing only three hits and a single run while striking out four Mountaineer hitters. Mike Frank (Maumee) earned his first win of the season in his three innings of relief and senior Dan Parsons (Strongsville, Ohio) closed up shop by finishing the final two frames.
Bowling Green (3-7) will engage in a doubleheader Thursday afternoon with Yale University, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
