The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team will travel north to Mount Pleasant, Mich., for the final regular season meet of the 2011 season. The dual meet with the Central Michigan Chippewas is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
See You Next Week
The Falcons will be returning to Mount Pleasant the following weekend (Mar. 19) to compete in the 2011 Mid-American Conference Championship, which is hosted by CMU (Bowling Green hosted the MAC Championships in 2010).
Falcons Post Season-High
The Orange and Brown may be hitting their peak at exactly the right time. Last weekend versus Kentucky and George Washington the Falcons posted a season-high 193.800. BGSU's previous-high this season was back on Jan. 30, when they scored a 190.400 versus Western Michigan and Ohio State.
Event Scores Were Tops as Well
Helping the Falcons to that 193.800 team score were the team scores on all four individual events, where BGSU posted season-highs on all four of them.
Vs. Kentucky/GW Previous High
193.800 Team Score 190.400
48.225 Bars 48.125
47.950 Beam 47.175
49.000 Floor 48.500
48.625 Vault 48.300
And Individually...
Obviously when a team does well, many of the Falcon gymnasts scores should be solid as well. Of the 24 performances, 12 of them scored at least a 9.700, a season-high for the team. Individually the Falcons had several key performances that were season-bests.
Amber Brewer scored a career-best 9.825 on bars, Dawn Christman's 9.825 on vault was a season-best, Megan Harrington posted a 9.775 on floor (season-best), Sunny Marchand's 9.825 on vault (also a season-best), Megan Valentini scored a 9.800 on floor and Danielle Wishart posted season-bests on beam (9.750), floor (9.850) and vault (9.850).
Series With CMU
Central Michigan holds a 23-13 series advantage over the Falcons, with BGSU's last win versus the Chippewas coming during the 2007-08 campaign.
The House That Roars
The Falcon gymnasts built a new nest in Anderson Arena in 2009 and that continues today. Since moving to Anderson Arena the Falcons are 5-6 inside the “House That Roars”. With volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball moving into the Stroh Center in 2011, Anderson Arena will solely be the home for BGSU gymnastics next season.
Falcons Announce 2011 Captains
BGSU head coach Kerrie Beach has announced that seniors Amber Brewer and Lexi Psichopaidas, along with red-shirt junior Kasey Fillmore and sophomore Danielle Wishart will serve as captains for the 2011 campaign.
Beach Leads BGSU
Head coach Kerrie Beach begins her fourth season at the helm of the BGSU gymnastics program. Last season Beach helped coach the team to a five-match win streak and a 4-2 conference record, both best in nearly a decade. She has an 19-37 overall record and is 9-15 in Mid-American Conference play.
Falcons Picked Sixth In 2011 Preseason Poll
The Mid-American Conference announced the 2001 gymnastics preseason poll on Jan. 4, with the Falcons picked to finish sixth among the seven team field. The poll was voted on the league's head coaches. Kent State was picked to win the league.
