QUICK HITS
• The Falcons scored the first 15 points of the game on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 1), taking control early en route to a 71-49 win over Colorado State ... BGSU held the Rams to just four first-half field goals, and had a 31-14 lead at the break ... the visitors shot just 21.1 percent from the field in the opening half, and BG held a 28-13 rebounding advantage in the first 20 minutes.
• For the game, the Falcons outrebounded the Rams by a 48-31 count, with point guard Jillian Halfhill leading the way ... the 5-6 junior had the first double-double of her career, scoring 10 points and obliterating her previous rebounding high with 13 ... her prior best had been six rebounds, set seven days earlier against another Mountain West Conference team (UNLV) ... on Saturday, Halfhill had eight rebounds in the first half alone.
• Halfhill was not the only BGSU player who set career standards on Saturday ... another junior, Jill Stein, scored 11 points, the highest total of her Falcon career to date ... additionally, Stein hit her first collegiate three-point field goal early in the second half against the Rams.
• Freshman Miriam Justinger also set a career scoring high, with 12 points vs. CSU ... Justinger led the team in scoring for the first time in her brief BGSU tenure.
• Through seven games, no fewer than seven different players have led the team in scoring at least once ... seniors Danielle Havel, Allison Papenfuss and Chrissy Steffen, Halfhill and sophomore Jasmine Matthews each paced the Falcons in the scoring column once over the first five games ... redshirt junior Alexis Rogers shared scoring honors with Steffen for the Falcons against Temple last week (Nov. 28), and Justinger led the way on Saturday.
• A total of 11 players have seen action for the Falcons this season to date ... no fewer than nine of those players have posted a double-digit scoring total at least once ... that list includes Halfhill, Havel, Justinger, Matthews, Papenfuss, Rogers, Steffen, Stein and freshman Bailey Cairnduff.
• The Falcons got a total of 36 points from players off of the bench on Saturday, more than double the team's previous high this season (17 at Purdue).
• The BG starters were more than holding their own, however ... the Falcons' starting five combined for 24 points in the first half of play, while holding CSU's starters to just two points ... for the game, BG's starters outscored the Rams, 35-20, while the bench players had a 36-29 scoring advantage ... only two BG players saw more than 24 minutes of action.
ROOS = SUCCESS
• BGSU began the regular-season schedule with a 68-57 win over Madonna, the first official victory of the Jennifer Roos Era ... Roos was hired as the Falcons' head coach on April 16, 2012.
• Roos, of course, has been on the BGSU staff for over a decade, having been Curt Miller's first hire when he took the job in 2001 ... Roos spent three seasons as an assistant coach, and served as Miller's associate head coach for the last eight years ... BGSU captured Mid-American Conference divisional titles in each of those eight years, winning the MAC regular-season title outright in seven of those seasons.
• BGSU has gone 262-95 overall and 135-41 in MAC play since Roos arrived at BG ... those numbers represent a success rate of nearly 74 percent overall and a winning percentage of almost 77% in conference action.
• Over the last nine-plus years, the numbers are even more staggering ... the Falcons are 241-60 (80.1%) overall, 124-20 (86.1%) in MAC regular-season play and 145-24 (85.7%) in all games vs. league foes during that time ... BGSU has won more than 20 games in each of the last nine seasons, a MAC record.
• Although the Madonna game marked the 'official' head-coaching debut for Roos, as well as her first 'official' win, it was not her first regular-season contest in charge of the Falcons ... when Miller suffered a mild stroke in January of 2012, Roos assumed interim head-coaching duties and led BGSU to a 2-0 record, with wins on the road against Central Michigan and at home vs. Northern Illinois prior to Miller's return to the bench in early February.
WINNING THE BATTLE OF THE BOARDS
The Falcons enjoyed a 48-31 rebounding advantage vs. Colorado State ... BGSU had a 28-13 edge in the first half, with the Falcons' 13 offensive boards matching CSU's total at both ends of the floor ... BG has outrebounded the opponent in five of this year's seven games, and the Falcons have a rebounding margin of +5.6.
DOING IT WITH DEFENSE
The Falcons got out to a 15-0 lead against Colorado State ... BGSU shot a respectable 5-for-12 from the floor in building that 15-point margin to start the game ... but, the Falcons enjoyed a great deal of success at the defensive end during that time ... BG forced the Rams to go 0-for-8 from the field with four turnovers in the first eight-plus minutes of the game ... CSU did not make a field goal until 11:05 remained in the half, and the Rams hit only four shots from the floor over the entire period.
DOING IT WITH FRESHMEN, TOO
BGSU's two freshmen, Miriam Justinger and Bailey Cairnduff, combined to score the Falcons' final 13 points of the game on Saturday vs. CSU ... Justinger scored seven points in the final 2:52, while Cairnduff had six in the last 4:40 of the contest ... each first-year Falcon made an 'and-one' layup and converted the ensuing free throw during that stretch ... the duo combined for 20 points in 21 minutes, as Justinger had a team-leading 12 points in just 10 minutes of action, while Cairnduff had eight points in 11 minutes vs. the Rams.
BGSU AN ATLANTIC 10 AFFILIATE MEMBER?
Wednesday's opponent, Butler, is one of four teams the Falcons will face from the Atlantic 10 Conference ... BG played Temple at the Stroh Center last week, and the Falcons also will meet Massachusetts (Dec. 19) and nationally-ranked Dayton (Dec. 30).
OR PERHAPS THE MOUNTAIN WEST?
Colorado State was the second of three Mountain West Conference opponents the Falcons will face in a span of roughly three weeks ... BGSU is 2-0 vs. the MWC to date, having posted a 64-54 win over UNLV in Sin City on Nov. 25 ... Wyoming will come to the Stroh Center to face the Falcons one week from Sunday (Dec. 16).
THE REST OF THE NON-LEAGUE SLATE
In addition to the four Atlantic 10 and three MWC opponents, the Falcons' non-conference schedule includes two foes from the Big Ten Conference (Purdue and Northwestern) and one each from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (Niagara), Big East Conference (Villanova) and Conference USA (UCF) ... BGSU also faced one school (Madonna) from the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference of the NAIA ... all of this, of course, is assuming none of these schools have changed conferences in the last few hours.
ABOUT THE FALCONS

• Head coach Jennifer Roos welcomed back nine letterwinners, including four starters, from a year ago ... the Brown and Orange went 24-7 overall and 14-2 in the MAC in 2011-12 ... two of those starters, Steffen and Rogers, were selected to the Preseason All-MAC Team in 2012-13 ... Steffen led the Falcons in scoring last season, with 13.2 points per game, and also averaged 5.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.8 steals.
• Rogers averaged 12.3 points and a team-leading 8.7 rebounds per game, and was named to the All-MAC First Team in her first playing season with the Falcons (Steffen earned All-MAC Second-Team honors last year) ... Rogers also was a WBCA Coaches' All-America Team honorable-mention selection in '11-12.
• Rogers was a 2012-13 Preseason All-MAC First-Team selection by the College Sports Madness web site, while Steffen was a preseason all-league second-team choice.
• In addition to Rogers and Steffen, Havel returned after starting all 31 games a year ago ... Havel averaged 6.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.6 steals and a team-high 0.7 blocked shots ... • Four newcomers joined the program this season ... one of those four, Erica Donovan, will sit out the season after transferring from North Carolina State Univ. ... she played in all 35 games for the Wolfpack a year ago, averaging 4.9 points and 2.5 rebounds per game ... Donovan, who graduated from John Jay H.S. in Northside, Texas, attended Notre Dame Academy in Toledo as a freshman.
• Salinas also joined BGSU as a transfer, as she came to Northwest Ohio after two years at Central Arizona College ... Salinas averaged 10.3 points and 4.1 assists last year, and helped the Vaqueras to a 20-0 league record and a 10th consecutive appearance in the NJCAA national tournament.
• Freshmen Cairnduff (Morley, Mich.) and Justinger (Sylvania, Ohio) joined the Falcons this season after each earned first-team all-state honors last year ... Cairnduff finished her career at Morley Stanwood H.S. as the school's all-time leading scorer, helping the Mohawks to state titles in both volleyball and basketball last year ... Justinger helped Northview H.S. to a 21-2 record last season, averaging 19.6 points per game to lead the Northern Lakes League in scoring.
• The Falcons are shooting .356 from the field, and BG is .307 from three-point range and .701 from the free-throw line through the first seven games ... the opponents have shot .409 from the floor, .280 from beyond the arc and .711 from the stripe ... the Falcons have a rebounding margin of +5.6.
