Falcons Fall At Oklahoma State, 13-3
February 25, 2012 | Baseball
Box Score
For the third time in the first four games of the season, the Falcons had a lead. But they have not been able to hold the lead in any of those three games, as they were defeated by Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon, 13-3. Chase Stevens was credited with the win, improving the Cowboys to 4-3. Patrick Martin was tagged with the loss, as the Falcons dropped to 0-4.
The Falcons would once again strike first in Saturday's ballgame, as they took an early 2-0 lead in the second. That lead, however, would be short-lived, as the Cowboys again struck for four in the bottom of the second inning, to take the lead for good.
The score would hold at 4-2 through the third inning, before the Falcons crept to within one, at 4-3 after plating a fourth inning run. That run would be the last of the day, as Oklahoma State would go on to score the last nine runs in the ballgame, breaking it wide open.
Kyle Ottoson got the start for the Cowboys, and would struggle, as the Falcons would load the bases in the first and second innings, but would only come away with two total runs. Ottoson was then replaced by Chase Stevens after the fourth inning, and Stevens would shut the Falcons down. He did not allow a hit over the final five innings, striking out 13 batters.
After four innings pitched, Patrick Martin was replaced by freshman Trevor Blaylock. Blaylock would struggle, allowing six hits and six earned runs over 2.1 innings pitched. Freshman Andrew Lacinak would finish the game for the Falcons, going the final 1.2 innings, while only allowing one earned run, in his first collegiate action.
For the ballgame, the Falcons would score three runs on seven hits, but also commit six errors. The Cowboys scored 13 runs on 15 hits, while only committing one error.
The Falcons and Cowboys will close out the series tomorrow, with the finale coming from Allie P. Reynolds Stadium in Stillwater, Okla. at 2 pm ET.
