Butterfield Named MAC Scholar Athlete Of The Week

Cleveland, Ohio – Bowling Green State University junior volleyball player Lindsey Butterfield has been named the Mid-American Conference's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week after guiding the Falcons to a pair of victories, including a win over MAC East favorite Ohio, on the opening weekend of conference play.
The MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week is presented to one male and one female student-athlete with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better who performs well during the week's competition. Winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
Butterfield maintains at 3.89 GPA in biology and had one of the strongest weekends of her three-year volleyball career at BGSU. She had 21 kills and hit .360 as the Falcons swept both Ohio and Kent State. In the win over Ohio, Butterfield helped the Falcons to a tight first-set victory, posting a kill with the score tied at 21-21 and then another with the Falcons clinging to a 23-22 lead. She finished the match with 10 kills and a .450 attack percentage.
Butterfield followed that up with 11 kills and a .300 attack percentage in a three-set sweep over Kent State, adding two blocks.
Earlier this week, the MAC named Butterfield the East Division Offensive Player of the Week and BGSU swept the East Division awards as teammate Leah Shaw was named Defensive Player of the Week.
Bowling Green is 6-7 on the year and 2-0 in MAC play. The Falcons will play Friday night at Akron at 7 p.m. and Saturday night at Buffalo at 7 p.m.
