Bryce Williamson Named WCHA Offensive Player Of The Week

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- Bryce Williamson was rewarded for his strong play over the past week as he was named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
The 6-0, 190-pound senior from Seba Beach, Alberta, Williamson had three goals, three assists, 15 shots on goal and earned a +3 plus/minus rating as the Falcons went 2-0-1 in three non-conference match ups.
He started the week with two points (1g, 1a) in the second period against visiting Ohio State last Tuesday (October 15), helping Bowling Green erase a 3-0 deficit and rally for a 4-3 victory. It was the Falcons' first win over OSU since 2008.
Last Friday (October 18), Williamson scored the lone Falcon goal in a 1-1 (ot) home-ice tie against Colgate, making a couple of dekes and scoring with 6:25 left in the in the first frame to give his club a 1-0 lead.
Then to complete the week, Williamson had another goal and two more assists on Saturday (October 19) in Bowling Green's 7-0 triumph over Colgate, with his three points marking a single game career high.
Senior defenseman Zach Sternberg of Lake Superior State University was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week after scoring one goal and two assists in the two-game sweep over No. 15-ranked Union College to extend their season-opening win streak to four games while freshman goaltender Davis Jones was named Rookie of the Week after turning away 54-of-59 shots on goal for a .915 save percentage in two games, helping the Nanooks earn the Brice Alaska Goal Rush championship.
Bowling Green will take the ice next Tuesday (Oct. 29) at Value City Arena to take on the Buckeyes of Ohio State University. The Falcons will be looking to beat the Buckeyes in back-to-back games for the first time since the 2005-06 season. The Orange and Brown will then open up WCHA play as Alaska Anchorage comes to town on Nov. 1-2.
