Four Falcons Named Academic All-MAC

Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University volleyball team had four players earn 2013 Academic All-MAC honors, the most by any school in the conference. Seniors Laura Avila, Lindsey Butterfield and Kaitlyn Skinner, along with junior Erica Fullenkamp were all named to the team. Another four members were named honorable mention in seniors Libby Dachenhaus, Ashley Dunn and Paige Penrod, as well as junior Kelsey Bates. The eight total mentions were also the most in the MAC.
Avila boasts a 4.00 grade point average in health science and finished her career this fall in fourth place in career assists at Bowling Green. She ranked 10th in the MAC with 7.32 assists per set in league matches this year and started 11 of the team's 30 contests. She was one of five Falcons with at least 140 digs and her 492 assists ranked second on the squad. It is the third time she has been named Academic All-MAC in her career.
Butterfield holds a 3.82 GPA in biology and is a two-time first team all-conference performer. She was a nominee for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award and was preseason All-MAC. Butterfield ranked seventh in the MAC and kills and led the Falcons with 3.26 per set, improving that number to 3.35 in conference matches. She also hit .237 on the season, second-best on the team, and had 13 aces and 177 digs. It is the second consecutive season that Butterfield was named Academic All-MAC and she added honorable mention recognition as a sophomore.
Fullenkamp holds a perfect 4.00 GPA in adolescent to young adult education. She took over the starting setter role and averaged 8.65 per set, eighth in the conference. She improved that number to 9.15 assists per set in league matches. Fullenkamp was one of three players with at least 200 digs, finishing with 210.
Skinner boasts a 3.77 GPA in biology and was named second team All-MAC this year. A two-time MAC East Defensive Player of the Week, she ranked in the top 30 in the country with 1.32 blocks per set. Her 143 block assists were just two shy of the single-season school record and she led the MAC with 1.45 blocks per set in conference matches. Skinner was the only player on the team to start all 30 matches this year and she was also fifth on the squad in kills. It is the second consecutive season that she was named Academic All-MAC.
Dachenhaus (3.66 GPA in health science) and Dunn (3.53 GPA in marketing) each earned honorable mention recognition for the third consecutive year. Penrod (3.23 GPA in early childhood education) was named to the Academic All-MAC squad a year ago, while it is the first time Bates (3.47 GPA in pre-exercise science) has received recognition.
