Akron, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University swim team delivered a commanding performance against Akron on the road Friday, outpacing the Zips by a score of 175-117. The Falcons won 13 of 14 races, with Joëlle Scheps, Alexa Harris, Daniela Carrillo, Jordan Bullock and Emily Bennet winning two races each in the dual.
"It was a great day for us," said head coach Petra Martin. "People really delivered and did what they needed to do. It's a great step for us before MAC Championships."
Bowling Green dominated from the start, with two relays finishing 1-2 in the 400 medley relay. A first-place team of Harris, Alexis Kain, Bullock and Bennet touched in 3:51.77, with a second-place team of Jen Beatty, Carrillo, Scheps and Newman not far behind at 3:52.92.

Transfer Joëlle Scheps continued a stellar debut year as a Falcon, winning two events. In her first appearance in the 400 IM this year, Scheps took first by a margin of more than seven seconds. Her time of 4:26.47 is the third-fastest in BGSU history. She also placed first in the 200 freestyle, touching in 1:51.53. Freshman Hannah Newman finished second with a career-best 1:54.40.
Harris, Carrillo, Bullock and Bennet each dominated their specialties, combining for eight individual wins for the Falcons. Harris was tops in the 100- and 200 backstroke, while Bennet dominated the sprint freestyle, winning the 50- and 100 free over teammate Brittany Szekely. Freshmen Carrillo and Bullock each did their part, with Carrillo touching first in the 100- and 200-breaststroke and Bullock winning the 100- and 200 butterfly.
The Falcons' only loss came in the 500 freestyle, as Akron's Ashley Drazkowski out-touched Waller to finish first, 5:05.12-5:06.61.
The win improves Bowling Green's record to 6-7 (1-4 MAC). The team is back in the pool on Saturday, facing Youngstown State at 12 p.m. It will be the final regular-season contest for the Falcons before Mid-American Conference Championships at the end of February.
