Shay Garners MAC East Player Of The Week Honors
April 22, 2013 | Baseball
CLEVELAND, Ohio - For the second straight week, and the third time this season, a Bowling Green State University Falcon has garnered weekly honors from the Mid-American Conference. It was announced by the MAC Office on Monday afternoon that Jeremy Shay had been named MAC East Player of the Week for his performance this past weekend.
On the weekend, Shay led the Falcons to their second straight Mid-American Conference series win. Shay batted .545 (6-11), with a slugging percentage of 1.182. Shay had five RBI, scored five runs, and recorded his first career multi-homer game in a 14-6 win over Akron on Saturday.
In Saturday's first game, Shay led the Falcons to head coach Danny Schmitz's 600th career victory, going 4-for-5. In that contest, Shay had four RBI and scored three runs. Shay's RBIs came on the power of two home runs, the first multi-home run game for a Falcon since March 17, 2012 when Andrew Kubuski had two against Eastern Kentucky.
In the final two games of the weekend series, Shay was on base four times, scoring two runs. In Saturday's second game, Shay recorded his third extra-base hit of the day, a double.
Shay joins freshman Nick Glanzman and junior T.J. Losby as the other Falcons to win the award so far this season.
The Falcons will begin the stretch run of their schedule with two midweek games this week. On Tuesday, the Orange and Brown will travel to Xavier and on Wednesday they will host Wright State. A preview of this week's games can be found by CLICKING HERE.
