Kaitlyn Skinner To Play Volleyball Overseas
October 08, 2014 | Volleyball
Lugo, Spain – Bowling Green State University volleyball alumna Kaitlyn Skinner has signed a professional contract to continue her athletic career with Club Voleibol Emev? in the Superliga de Femenina. The team, based in Lugo, Spain, plays throughout the country as well as the Grand Canary Islands.
"I am thrilled to be given this opportunity to continue my volleyball career as a professional player in Spain's top league," Skinner said. "This opportunity would not have come about without the four years I spent at BGSU. My development as a player and the successes that the team had not only spurred me to want to continue at the next level but were key contributors to me securing this opportunity. I want to thank all of my teammates that I played with and the coaching staffs over my four-year career as a Falcon as, without them, this would not have been possible. I will be keeping the Falcon Pride alive in Spain! Roll Along!"
Skinner was a second-team All-MAC performer as a senior, earning Academic All-MAC accolades as well. She ranked among the top 35 players in the country in blocks in 2013 and started 60 of the team's 63 matches over her final two seasons. With 143 blocks assists as a senior, she ranks second all-time at BGSU in that category and her 154 total blocks are seventh-most. Skinner finished her career with 279 career kills and 297 career blocks.
Skinner was a member of the 2012 MAC Championship team, starting 30 of the team's 33 matches. That squad became the first in program history to win an NCAA Tournament match, advancing to the second round with a five-set victory over Yale in which Skinner had six kills and six blocks. She added three more blocks in the squad's second round loss to No. 1 Penn State, marking the first time in program history that BGSU had faced a team ranked No. 1 in the country.
