Garda Repeats As MAC East Defensive Player Of The Week

Cleveland, Ohio – Bowling Green State University sophomore libero Madeline Garda was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Defensive Player of the Week today. It is the second consecutive week in which she earned the award.
Garda broke BGSU's school record for digs in a four-set match and averaged 7.63 digs per set over two matches during the weekend. She began with a remarkable 34 digs at Miami Thursday, breaking the program record of 30 in a four-set match. The 34 digs were also the most by anyone in the MAC this year. In that contest, Garda was spectacular in all facets, adding 36 perfect serve receive attempts and handing out three assists.
She followed up that match by almost reaching 30 digs again Saturday, finishing with 27 in a four-set match at Northern Illinois. Garda had two aces and an assist in the contest as well.
For the weekend, Garda posted 61 digs and a .973 serve receive percentage to go with four assists and two aces. Over the past three matches, she has 90 digs and she leads the conference with 5.73 digs per set in MAC play. She has at least 15 digs in 12 of the past 13 matches and her 464 digs this season ranks eighth in BGSU history with two matches left to play. On the season, she is averaging 4.73 digs per set, tied for fourth-best in BGSU history.
The Falcons close the regular season this weekend with matches at Ohio and Kent State.
