Baraldi earns All-Ohio accolades for the third time in his distinguished Falcon career. He was named to the second team in 2012, and also was chosen to the team in 2011 (only one All-Ohio Team was named in 2011). Both Flynn and James are on the All-Ohio Team for the first time.
A native of Naperville, Ill. (Central H.S.), Flynn had one of the top seasons in program history. He started all 21 contests for head coach Eric Nichols in 2014, and led the team with 14 goals and 32 points. Those totals are the highest by a Falcon since 1996, and rank him among the national leaders.
Flynn's goal total was tied for the third-highest in a season in program history, and his point total deadlocked him for fifth on that BGSU list.
Flynn led the Mid-American Conference in total goals and game-winning goals (six), and he ranked second in the league in total points, goals per game (0.67) and points per game (1.52). He finished the season ranked among the national leaders in all five of those categories, as he was eighth or better on each list.
Flynn was directly involved in the scoring of nine of BGSU's game-winning goals in 2014. In addition to the six GWG he scored himself, three of his four assists this fall came on the winning tally. He tied program single-game records with five goals and 11 points in the Falcons' win over Findlay on Sept. 2.
Flynn was named to the All-MAC Second Team, and -- among many, many other honors he earned in 2014 -- also was named to the Capital One Academic All-America Second Team.
Baraldi, a native of Canton, Ohio (Massillon Jackson H.S.), played in 18 matches this fall, starting 16. He had 10 points on four goals and two assists. Baraldi, a 2014 team tri-captain, was named to the All-MAC Second Team, and also was selected to the all-conference second team by the College Sports Madness web site.
Baraldi finished the season ranked fifth on the team in both goals and points. He was 10th in the MAC in goals, and also ranked among the league leaders in shots (eighth, 47) and shots per game (seventh, 2.61). Baraldi scored in each of BGSU's first two matches of the year, wins over IUPUI (Aug. 29) and Findlay. He also scored on the road against Duquesne (Sept. 7) and IPFW (Oct. 1). The goal at DU tied the score with under three minutes left in regulation, and the marker at IPFW came with under seven minutes left and proved to be the game winner.
Baraldi became the first BGSU player to record a double-digit point total in each of his four seasons since Chris Dore (1996-99). He played in a total of 72 career matches with the Falcons, starting all but three, and had 57 points on 18 goals and 21 assists. He finished his career just one assist and two points away from moving into a tie for 10th place on each of those BG career lists.
James, a native of Mississauga, Ontario (Loyola Catholic Secondary), joined Flynn and Baraldi on the All-MAC Second Team in 2014. James started all 21 games this year, and finished with six assists, tying for second on the team in that category. Four of those six assists came on game-winning goals, including in the Falcons' victory at Northern Illinois (Nov. 8) which helped BGSU clinch a MAC Tournament berth.
James, a midfielder, had an assist in each of the first three matches of the season, and also had a helper on the winning goal at St. Bonaventure in late September. His final assist of the season came on Flynn's game-opening goal in the Falcons' overtime win over West Virginia in the MAC Tournament (Nov. 14).
James played a total of 1,924 of the team's 1,972-plus minutes this fall. He has played in all 60 of BGSU's matches since his arrival on campus, and has made an even 50 starts. James has 20 career points on five goals and 10 assists.
The Falcons finished the 2014 season with an overall record of 14-6-1, and BGSU ended MAC regular-season play with a 2-2-1 league mark, good for a tie for third place in the six-team conference. BG's overall win total was the team's highest in 17 years, and the Brown and Orange advanced to the championship game of the MAC Tournament for the first time since 2003.
