In Tomic's two years leading the BGSU Volleyball team, the Falcons have enjoyed much success, including a MAC Tournament Championship in 2012 and a run to the NCAA Tournament second round. A year ago, the team went 10-6 in MAC play, earning a second place finish in the MAC East Division. The Falcons posted their first win over a ranked team in program history win a victory over No. 13 BYU. BGSU is 23-9 in MAC play in Tomic's two years and 16-5 at home in the Stroh Center.
The 2014 Falcon volleyball team will look to create its own legacy with a roster made up of 11 freshmen and sophomores among the 13 players. Jelena Sunjic, a MAC All-Freshman team outside hitter a year ago, returns to bolster the lineup along with two leading seniors in setter Erica Fullenkamp and middle Kelsey Bates.
The team will have the opportunity to set the tone early by hosting Pittsburgh, Dayton and Middle Tennessee State for the Hampton Inn Invitational Aug. 29-30 as the Stroh Center will be home to six NCAA Division I matches in a two-day stretch. The Falcons will return to the Stroh Center Oct. 2 for their first home conference match when BGSU hosts Miami. The eight home MAC matches include tilts against defending league champion Ohio for "Dig For The Cure" on Oct. 11 and "Overflow The Stroh" night against rival Toledo on Oct. 24. BGSU will close out the regular season with Senior Night on Nov. 1 against Buffalo.
"We have a very young team this year and home-court advantage is going to be an x factor in our success," Tomic said. "Fans who come to see us play can expect to see a young, athletic, selfless team that plays with passion and unity, and with a mission to represent BGSU with class and pride."
