Falcons Picked Third In MAC East; Sunjic Recognized By Coaches

Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University volleyball team was picked to finish third in the Mid-American Conference East Division, as voted on by the league's 12 head coaches. As well, sophomore Jelena Sunjic was named to the six-person preseason All-MAC East team.
Despite boasting a 13-person roster that includes 11 freshmen and sophomores, BGSU was picked behind only Ohio and Buffalo in the MAC East Divison. Ohio earned 11 first-place votes with the Bulls garnering the other selection. Miami was picked to finish fourth, followed by Kent State and Akron.
In the MAC West, Ball State was picked first with seven first-place votes and Northern Illinois was second with four first-place votes. Western Michigan earned the other first-place selection and was third, followed by Eastern Michigan, Central Michigan and Toledo.
Sunjic earned a preseason All-MAC East selection after starting 20 times as a freshman a year ago. She was third on the team with 299 kills last year, averaging 2.79 kills per set. Sunjic also posted 66 blocks and was named to the All-MAC Freshman Team in 2013. She had a career-best 22 kills in a home win over Miami and posted double-digit kill totals 16 times.
Sunjic joins Ohio's Karin Bull, Abby Gilleland and Kelly Lamberti, along with Buffalo's Tahleia Bishop and Miami's Jenny Ingle on the All-MAC East preseason team. In the West, Ball State's Hayley Benson and Alex Fuelling were selected, along with Western Michigan's Lexie Pawlik and Ave Stout, Central Michigan's Kaitlyn McIntyre and Northern Illinois' Mackenzie Roddy.
BGSU opens the regular season at home Friday and Saturday for the Hampton Inn Invitational. The Falcons host Dayton at 5 pm Friday night and will play two more matches Saturday. Bowling Green faces Middle Tennessee State at noon and Pittsburgh at 7:30 pm, in a match televised in Northwest Ohio on BCSN.
