Falcons Dive Back In To Competition This Weekend At Cooper Pool

Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University swim and dive team return to action this weekend at Cooper Pool after having over a month off from dual meet competition. The Falcons play host to Michigan State and Marshall Friday at 6 p.m. and hit the pool Saturday at 11 a.m. against Marshall and MAC rival Toledo.

WHAT THE COACH IS SAYING
Head Coach Petra Martin: "We are excited to get back to racing after a few weeks of some very solid training. The season is moving very fast at this point for us and being only six weeks away from the MAC Championships we need to get into our racing mode again. Both Friday and Saturday's meets will be very competitive and we know that all the teams coming here this weekend will bring their best game to town. Our team is eager to race and put up a lot of Ws on the board."
LAST TIME OUT
The Falcons placed second in the Eastern Michigan University Invitational Dec. 5-6. The team won eight events, beating out Oakland, Ball State, Wayne State and Olivet Nazarene. Host school EMU took first place. This marked the second time this season BG has defeated Ball State and Oakland.
FALCONS REPRESENT AT MEXICAN NATIONALS
Daniela Carrillo and Estela Davis competed in the Mexican short course national championships over winter break in Queretaro, Mexico. In the final day of competition, Carrillo swam the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.69, just a bit behind the national record of 1:09.36. Earlier in the week, she had tied the national record in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 32.02 seconds and won the 200 breaststroke. Previously, Davis had won the 50 backstroke, the 100 backstroke and the 200 backstroke. The duo also both swam NCAA B qualifying times in the team's previous meet at Eastern Michigan. Davis swam a 1:57.80 in the 200 backstroke and Carrillo recorded a 2:14.27 in the 200 breaststroke.
GRIFFIN'S SUCCESS CONTINUES TO 2014-15
It hasn't taken long for Victoria Griffin make her mark in the Mid-American Conference. The sophomore earned MAC Swimmer of the Week honors four times last season and captured her fifth award this season after swimming on six winning relay teams at the Tom Stubbs Relays Oct. 3. Against Oakland and EMU, Griffin won the 50 freestyle, as well as the 100 freestyle. At the GT Invite, Griffin finished 15th in the 50 freestyle with season PR of 23.27. Her success in the 50 free continued at the Eastern Michigan Invitational, taking first place in the event.
PRESEASON RANKINGS
BGSU was picked to finish third in the Mid-American Conference for the 2014-15 season, according to the preseason coaches' poll. The Falcons are ranked behind defending MAC champion Akron (ranked 2nd) and MAC runner-up Miami (ranked 1st).
