Falcons Host Orange And Brown Intrasquad Meet Friday

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University swimming & diving program will host their annual Orange and Brown Intrasquad Meet on Friday (Oct. 2) beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Cooper Pool. Led by first-year head coach Matt Ense, the Falcons are coming off three consecutive years in which they have finished third at the Mid-American Conference Championships. This season, the Falcons have a second-year diving program to add to the swimming points at MAC Championships, and will look to get over the third-place hump when Bowling Green hosts MAC Championships (Feb. 24-27) at Cooper Pool.
The Coaching Staff
Head coach Matt Ense, a 2002 graduate of Eastern Michigan, enters his first season at the helm of the Orange and Brown. He comes to BGSU after two seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Cincinnati. During his time at UC, Ense mentored Jackie Keire wo won four titles at the American Atheltic Conference Championships in 2015, while also being named an All-American in the 200 free. Prior to his time at UC, Ense was the head coach at DePauw for one season following a stint as an assistant coach at Dennison.
Ense is joined on staff by assistant coach Jaclyn Rosen, who followed Ense from Cincinnati after a year as an assistant coach on their staff. Rosen swam collegiately at the University of Hawaii and coached at San Jose State prior to her season spent at UC. Diving coach Alex Gauvin returns to the staff for his second season. He was hired prior to last season, tasked with starting up and developing the Falcons' diving program.
Falcons Picked Fifth In MAC Preseason Poll
The BGSU swimming & diving program was picked fifth in the Mid-American Conference preseason coaches' poll this season. The poll was announced on Thursday afternoon by the MAC office. Akron received all eight votes to win both the regular season title and MAC Championships.
Who Returns In 2015
Jordan Bullock, Sr., Zeeland, Mich.
Bullock returns for her senior season, a year after finishing sixth in the 400 IM at the MAC Championships. Bullock, an Academic All-MAC recipient in each of the past two seasons, also swam on the fourth-place 400 medley relay team last season.
Tara Capouch, Sr., Orland Park, Ill.
Capouch, who finished second in the 200 freestyle and fifth in the 500 freestyle last season at MAC Championships, was named Academic All-MAC last season. Looking to cap off a successful career, Capouch will look to build upon her strong junior season and lead the Falcons in 2015-16.
Daniela Carrillo, Sr., Hermosillo, Mexico
Carrillo, who had a successful summer swimming for the Mexican National Team at the World Championships, qualified last season for the championship final of the 100 breaststroke and also made NCAA B cut. She finished sixth in the 200 breaststroke. Throughout her career, Carrillo has qualified for the NCAA Championships once and made B cut twice.
Kayla Effinger, Sr., Carmel, Ind.
Effinger, an Academic All-MAC honoree, shined at the MAC Championships last year. She is coming back for one more year as a Falcon. Last year she set a career PR in the 100 freestyle prelims, finished eighth in the 100 freestyle, placed second in the 50 freestyle, and was a part of the third-place finishing 200 freestyle relay team.
Nicole Hranchook, Sr., Harrison Township, Mich.
Hranchook was Academic All-MAC last year and is coming back looking to shine during her senior season. She has had success the past three years at the MAC championships including swimming the fourth fastest time in BGSU history in the 400 IM during the 2012-13 season.
Hannah Newman, Sr., Champaign, Ill.
Newman, another Academic All-MAC senior, is looking to build off of a successful junior year. At the MAC Championships she finished sixth in the 200 freestyle A final, qualified for the 50 freestyle B final, and swam on two third-place relay teams.
Rachel Perry, R-Sr., Collinsville, Ill.
Perry, a former gymnast, is coming off of her first season on the Falcon Swimming and Diving team. After performing in the team's first diving season since 2009 and setting team high's on the 1-meter and 3-meter board, Perry has a lot to be optimistic about in the year ahead of her.
Alexandra Poitinger, Sr., Akron, Oh.
Poitinger is coming back for her senior season as a Falcon. She is coming off of a personal best time in the 1650 freestyle at the MAC Championships last year as she looks to help this senior class lead this Falcon team.
Sadie Ahlers, Jr., Sandusky, Oh.
Ahlers is another Falcon who had success at last year's MAC Championships as she set a career best in the 100 backstroke prelims. Throughout her sophomore and freshman seasons Ahlers was a part of numerous first-place finishing relay teams. This year Ahlers comes in as a junior who is looking to continue her success.
Hannah Albion, Jr., Fort Myers, Fla.
Albion is coming off of her second season as a member of the Falcon Swimming and Diving team. She was named Academic All-MAC last year and also had six top-five finishes in numerous events throughout the year. Back for her junior season, Albion looks for another productive year.
Anna Babinec, Jr., Holland, Mich.
Babinec is another Falcon who returns after earning Academic All-MAC honors a season ago. She had several successful meets throughout the season and will look to carry that success into the 2015-16 season.
Kristin Filby, Jr., Toledo, Ohio
Filby, coming off a first-place finish in the 200 IM 'B' final at last season's MAC Championship, looks to build upon success throughout her past two seasons. Filby also finished sixth in the 100 breasstroke IM final with a 'B' cut qualifying time of 1:02.29. She continued her successful MAC Championships appearance with a fourth-place finish in both the 200 and 400 medley relays and finished fifth in the 200 breaststroke final.
Victoria Griffin, Jr., Littlestown, Pa.
Griffin, who has been named first team All-MAC in each of her first two seasons, earned three MAC Swimmer of the Week awards last season. Griffin swam three times at MAC Championships, finishing inside the top five in each event. She has earned seven MAC Swimmer of the Week awards in her career and leads the Falcons into the 2015-16 season.
Maya Skorupski, Jr., West Chicago, Ill.
Skorupski last season finished eighth overall in the 100 backstroke at the MAC Championships and also swam in the 200 backstroke at the event. Enters her third season as a Falcon looking to help the Falcons towards a MAC Championship this season.
Kylie Bosco, So., Downers Grove, Ill.
A diver, Bosco was one of the members of last season's dive team – the first to compete at BGSU since 2009. She scored a career-high at Buffalo last season and will look to help the Falcons this season at MAC Championships.
Natalie Criswell, So., Portage, Mich.
Criswell competed last season in the 1650 freestyle at the MAC Championships, also swimming in the 200 and 500 freestyle prelims. Had several strong meets throughout her freshman campaign.
Maria Galic, So., Jonkoping, Sweden
Galic, a native of Sweden, compiled a strong freshman season in 2014-15 for the Falcons. She was a member of the fourth place relay team in the 200 medley at MAC Championships, while also taking four in the 200 backstroke 'B' final.
Elodie Schreiber, R-So., Saint Nabor
Schreiber did not compete last season for the Falcons, and looks forward to a strong sophomore campaign in the backstroke events.
Amanda Washko, So., Livonia, Mich.
Washko swam in several meets for the Falcons during her freshman season, mostly as a member of relays. Swam the final leg of a third-place finish in the 200 free relay against Toledo and Marshall.
Franziska Wohlert, So., Berlin, Germany
Wohlert, a native of Germany, placed third in both the 200 and 800 freestyler relays at MAC Championships a season ago. As a freshman, she qualified for the 200 IM 'A' final and placed sixth overall. Also swam an NCAA 'B' cut qualifying time in the 'A' finals of the 400 IM, finishing second.

Upcoming Meets
After the Orange and Brown Intrasquad Meet tomorrow, the Falcons will turn their attention to the beginning of the season. On Oct. 16, the Falcons will host the annual Tom Stubbs Relays, beginning at 4:00 pm. Following that meet, the annual Alumni Meet will take place at 10:00 am on Oct. 17 during Homecoming Weekend. The Falcons first dual meet will take place the following Saturday, Oct. 24, when they host Ohio in a meet beginning at 11:00 am.
