Falcons Shoot a First Round 281 on Sunday at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate

Powells Point, N.C. – The Bowling Green State University men's golf team carded a team round of 281, -3 under par, over the first round of play at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate hosted by Old Dominion University at the Kilmarlic Golf Club in Powells Point, N.C.
The Falcons team round of 281 is tied for the 11th lowest 18-hole tournament team score for BGSU since 1972-73.
BGSU will head into the second round of play on Monday in fifth-place overall on the team leaderboard and just three strokes out of the top-three spots.
"Pablo had a great round on Sunday. But, as a team we've got to get better and make more shots," commented head coach Kevin Farrell. "Teams put up good scores today, so we have to plan on making up ground tomorrow to give ourselves a chance to win on the final round of play on Tuesday."
Carding a BGSU low career round of 66, -5 under par, was freshman Pablo Heredia Iglesias who ended day one in a tie for fourth-place overall. The Spaniard had a team-high six birdies and was tied for second over the entire tournament field with a par-3 scoring average of 2.60, -2 under par. He also posted a par-4 scoring average of 3.67, -3 under par, on the day.
Junior Brett Rinker, who led the Falcons with 13 pars over his first 18-holes of play, posted a round of 70, -1 under par, to place in a tie for 15th over the first round of the three round event. He also recorded a par-5 scoring average of 4.50, -2 under par, on Sunday.
Only one stroke behind Rinker was fellow Falcon Cameron Michalak with a round of 71, even par. Over his first 18-holes of play, the sophomore totaled five birdies and a par-4 scoring average of 3.67, -3 under par, and will enter the second round of play in a tie for 18th-place overall.
Jose Narro shot a first round 74, +3, to finish day one in a tie for 49th-place overall, while Trey Walker placed in a tie for 73rd overall with a round of 77, +6, on Sunday. Both Narro and Walker each carded an eagle over the first round of play and led the Falcons with a par-5 scoring average of 4.50, -2 under par, respectively.
Campbell leads the tournament after 18-holes of play with a team score of 267, -17 under par, while Akron and Old Dominion are tied for second with a score of 278, -6 under par.
The second round of play will begin tomorrow morning with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
