MAC Announces Volleyball All-MAC Award Winners
Cleveland, Ohio – Bowling Green State University junior outside hitter Jelena Sunjic received All-MAC Honorable Mention honors for the 2015 season, the MAC office announced on Thursday, Nov. 19.
"We are proud that Jelena was recognized as one of the top players in the MAC for the third year in a row. Since we cannot vote for our own players, this honor shows the respect that other league coaches have for her and recognize her contributions to our team," stated head coach Danijela Tomic. "However, volleyball is an ultimate team sport and Jelena would not be able to do what she does on the court without her teammates."
Sunjic finished the regular season with a team-high 398 kills overall and 213 kills in MAC only play. She finished the regular season ranked fifth in the MAC with 3.55 kills per set on the season and recorded 20 kills or more in four different matches on the year.
The outside hitter registered seven double-doubles on the season and had a career-high 25 kills twice in a home win versus Akron and a road victory over the Zips late in the season. She also tallied double digit digs in 10 different contests on the year and totaled 4.0 total blocks are more in six different matches on the year, including a season high 5.0 versus Northern Illinois in the regular season finale.
This marks the third straight year in which Sunjic received conference postseason recognition having earned All-MAC First-Team honors last season and being named to the All-MAC Freshman Team two years ago in 2013.
