The Falcons see the season come to an end with records of 9-9-1 overall and 1-4-0 in MAC play.
Stuart Holthusen had two goals for the Zips, while Sam Gainford and Tyler Sanda also found the back of the net. Holthusen and Gainford scored just 48 seconds apart, giving the hosts a 2-0 lead with under 13 minutes gone. Holthusen's second goal came in the 21st minute, and Sanda closed the scoring in the 74th minute of the match.
UA held advantages of 17-8 in total shots and 7-4 in shots on goal. Zips goalkeeper Jake Fenlason made four saves on the night, while BGSU redshirt junior Nick Landsberger had three stops.
Junior Jacob Roth led the Falcons with three shot attempts, putting two on goal. Another Roth shot in the 51st minute of the match did not count, as his long free kick went into the lower-left corner of the goal, but the Falcons were ruled offside on the play.
With under four minutes left in the match, a Roth shot from 30 yards out forced Fenlason into a diving save to keep the shutout intact.
Saturday night saw the collegiate careers of BGSU's three seniors -- Jake Genrich, Ryan James and Jake Martin -- come to an end. James started all 19 matches this season, and played in all 79 of BG's matches in his four-year career, starting 69. James scored 33 career points on nine goals and 15 assists.
Genrich played in all 60 of BGSU's matches over his first three years, starting 59 of those 60 contests. He started the first four games this fall, playing every minute during that span. Over the next 12 matches, however, he missed all of 10 and most of an 11th due to injuries. Genrich saw action in each of the last three matches, though, and was in the starting lineup at both Appalachian State on Tuesday and UA on Saturday. He played in 69 career contests, starting 67.
Martin started at least 11 games in each of his two years with the Falcons, helping the Brown and Orange to a total of 23 wins in those two seasons. He had a pair of assists this fall.
