Falcons Move Up National Polls Yet Again
December 14, 2015 | Ice Hockey
Bowling Green, Ohio – Following a road sweep of Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) foe Bemidji State, the Bowling Green State University hockey team climbed two spots to No. 12 nationally in the USCHO.com poll and one spot to No. 13 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll.
Bowling Green owns the nation's second-longest unbeaten streak with a 7-0-2 record over the last nine games and the Falcons are now 11-3-5 on the season with a mark of 8-2-4 in the WCHA. Bowling Green is the top ranked WCHA team in each poll, with Minnesota State chiming in at No. 18 in the USCHO.com ranking.
The Falcons have been ranked in the USCHO.com top 20 poll for the entire season, beginning the season at No. 16 and peaking as high as No. 10. After sitting at No. 15 for three straight weeks, the Falcons have now improved their vote total in the poll for four consecutive weeks.
BGSU was receiving votes in the 15-team USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll during the preseason. The Falcons have also improved their vote total for four straight weeks in that poll to get to No. 13 overall.
The Falcons are the highest rated WCHA team in each of the human polls. BGSU is currently ranked No. 16 in the PairWise Rankings, which mimics the method of selection for the NCAA Division I men's hockey national tournament. The team also ranks No. 16 in the RPI and No. 19 in KRACH, which implements a sophisticated mathematical model known as the Bradley-Terry rating system.
Bowling Green is off until Dec. 30, when the Falcons will host Western Michigan at the Huntington Center in Toledo. The two teams met earlier this year with the Broncos coming away with a 4-1 victory. Puck drop is scheduled for 5 pm at the Huntington Center.
