The Bowling Green State University ice hockey team is ranked No. 16 in the USCHO NCAA Men's Division I preseason rankings, as announced today in voting by coaches, media and other personnel working in college hockey.
After a strong season last year the Falcons will look to continue to make national headlines and climb up the rankings. Bowling Green finished the 2014-15 campaign ranked No. 18 in the country and the team was ranked as high as No. 6 during the regular season.
Bowling Green is one of three WCHA teams that are ranked in the Top 20 joining Minnesota State at No. 6 and Michigan Tech at No. 16. Ferris State, Bemidji State and Alaska all received votes out of the WCHA as well.
A record 10 teams earned at least one first place vote, with Boston College picking up 19 of the 50 first-place votes available to earn the top ranking. Minnesota-Duluth was No. 2, followed by Boston University, North Dakota and Denver. Miami and RIT, two teams that BGSU faces this year, also received recognition. The RedHawks were No. 11 and the Tigers earned 37 votes to be just outside of the top 20.
The Falcons start their season with an exhibition game Saturday against the University of Toronto at 7:07 pm. The official start of the Falcons' season begins with two games back to back against Ohio State. The first game is Friday, Oct. 9 at 7:05 pm in Columbus and the following day they will play in Bowling Green at 7:37 pm (this is a time change from previous schedules).
