BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball programed welcomed back its 1995 Mid-American Conference regular-season championship team this past weekend. The championship was head coach Danny Schmitz's first at the helm of the Orange and Brown.
The team gathered at the new baseball locker room around 12:45 p.m. on Saturday (Jan. 9) for a day of recognition and catching up. Over 20 players from the team returned, bringing a contingent of family members and friends with them. After that, the team returned to Steller Field to take a few photos with their 1995 championship trophy.
From there, the team was honored during the first half of the men's basketball game against Central Michigan at the Stroh Center. The day concluded with a gathering at Fricker's later that evening.
The 1995 team finished 34-20, and went 22-8 in Mid-American Conference play to capture the program's second-ever regular season MAC Championship. The regular-season title was Bowling Green's first in 23 years. BGSU started conference play with a four-game sweep of Miami, and only lost five of its first 20 MAC ballgames. The 1995 squad did not lose one MAC series the entire season, and took its only series of the season against Toledo, winning three out of the four games against the Rockets.
