Mottice’s Four-Hit Day Paces Falcons In Series Opener At Ball State
May 14, 2026 | Baseball
Stade Becomes Third Falcon In Program History To Eclipse 100 Strikeouts In A Season
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ball State tallied the first run of the game, crossing one in the bottom of the second for a 1-0 lead.
- The Falcons answered in the top of the fifth. Carter Mottice took the first pitch of the inning into shallow center for a single. A hit and run single from Cooper McKenzie followed to put runners at the corners, setting up a sacrifice bunt from Griffin Scheiderer to bring home Mottice for a 1-1 tie.
- Ball State worked for the second out of the inning, but Sam Seidel was able to pull a payoff pitch down the right field line for a standup double, scoring McKenzie in the process to put the Falcons in front, 2-1.
- The Cardinals responded in the bottom half of the fifth with a pair of runs to reclaim the lead at 3-2.
- Scheiderer led off the top of the seventh with a single into center field. A sacrifice bunt from Vinny Salvione moved Scheiderer up to second with a wild pitch moving him to third. With two outs in the frame, Lance Vickers delivered a single into left, scoring Scheiderer to knot it up at 3-3 and force a BSU pitching change.
- The Cardinals again responded to break the tie in the bottom half with two runs for a 5-3 lead. A solo home run in the eighth pushed their lead to 6-3.
- The Falcons threatened in the ninth, loading the bases with the tying run on first, but Ball State worked out of the jam for the 6-3 final.
