Women's Golf Rounds Out Fall Season With Fourth Place Finish

SILVER LAKE, Ohio – The Bowling Green women's golf program concluded the fall season with a fourth place finish at the Silver Lake Shootout. The Falcons combined for a team score of 645, +69 at the University of Akron-hosted event.
Bowling Green carded a team score of 321 in the first round this morning, followed by a 324 in the afternoon to complete the 36-hole tournament.
"It's disappointing we weren't able to improve in the second round," Bowling Green women's golf head coach Stephanie Young said. "Overall, we walk away with a great opportunity to preview the MAC Championship course and will strive to improve over the break and be ready for competition in February."
Leading the Falcons was senior Mikayla Baer, who topped the Bowling Green leaderboard in her third event of the season with an 11th place finish overall. The Elmore, Ohio native marked a round of 80 this morning, then shaved off two strokes for a second round score of 78. Baer accomplished the total score of 155, +14 by tallying a team-leading two birdies and 22 pars, in addition to earning a 4.45 stroke average on par four scoring, and a 5.13 average on par five scoring.
Leading the Falcons with a 3.13 stroke average and +1 mark on par three scoring was freshman Brooke Nolte. A native of Melissa, Texas, Nolte finished in a tie for 13th overall by carding rounds of 78 and 84, for a tournament total of 162, +18. Nolte also tallied two birdies and 19 pars on the day. With the score, Nolte finished in the top-two spots on the Falcons leaderboard in all five events of the fall season.
Taking 15th place at the Silver Lake Shootout was sophomore Erin Fahey. The Austin, Texas native made a dramatic improvement from the first to second rounds, by cutting five strokes from her score for a total of 163, +19. Fahey marked scores of 84 and 79 in the first and second rounds, respectively, with two birdies and 19 pars. Fahey also averaged a 3.25 mark on par three scoring, 4.65 on par four scoring, and a 5.50 stroke average on the Silver Lake Country Club's four par-five holes.
Trailing Fahey by just two strokes and finishing in a tie for 16th overall was senior Fran Rodriguez. A native of Flower Mound, Texas, Rodriguez carded a team-leading -1 mark and 4.88 stroke average on par five scoring at the Silver Lake Shootout, in addition to 18 pars on the day. Rodriguez also averaged 3.38 strokes and a +3 score on par three scoring over the course of the 36-hole event.
With a total score of 170, +26, freshman Jessica Madry rounded out the Falcons team lineup. The Houston, Texas native finished in a tie for 24th overall after carding rounds of 81 and 89 in the tournament. In the process of adding two birdies to her scorecard, Madry also averaged 3.38 strokes and a +3 mark on par three scoring in her fourth event of the fall season.
Competing individually for the Falcons was sophomore Julia Durkin. In her second event of the season, Durkin finished in a tie for 22nd place and improved on her first round score of 86, to card an 83 in the second round for a final score of 169, +25. Durkin averaged 3.25 strokes across the Silver Lake Country Club's four par-three holes, and 4.70 strokes on the course's 10 par-four holes. The native of Miramar, Fla. also tallied two birdies in addition to 17 pars on the day.
The Bowling Green women's golf program will resume competition on Feb. 13 and Feb. 14 at the Women's Mid-American Match Play Challenge in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
