Women's Golf Closes Out Kzoo Classic With Sixth Place Finish

FINAL RESULTS
PORTAGE, Mich. – After two days of competition at the Kzoo Classic, the Bowling Green women's golf team finished sixth in a 10-team field Tuesday afternoon. The Falcons shot scores of 308, 314, and 317 in the three rounds of competition, finalizing with a team score of 939, +75.
Bowling Green tallied two birdies in the final day of play, along with the most pars of any team in the tournament, with 56. The Falcons also ranked second overall in par three scoring today, as the squad notched just a +1 on the holes.
"We were not able to execute on today's final round, but will work hard this coming week to be ready for play at the NCR Country Club," Bowling Green women's golf head coach Stephanie Young said.
For the first time in fall action, freshman Brooke Nolte finished on top of the Falcons scoreboard, with a final of 227, +11. The native of Melissa, Texas ranked first on the course in pars by carding 14 in the third round of play. Nolte also went even in both par three and par five scoring, ultimately leading to an eighth place finish overall, the highest finish of any Falcon this fall season.
Senior Fran Rodriguez had her highest finish in fall action as she tied for 15th place individually in the Kzoo Classic. The Flower Mound, Texas native excelled in par three scoring on the second day by marking an average of 2.75 strokes, leading to a final of -1 on the holes. Rodriguez completed the tournament with a total score of 233, +17 at the Western Michigan-hosted event.
A standout in fall competition is sophomore Erin Fahey, who tallied a 73 in the first round to mark the lowest score of any Falcon at the Kzoo Classic. Fahey earned an 81 in the third round this afternoon, in which she carded 11 pars, for a two-day total of 239, +23. The native of Austin, Texas finished tied for 22nd overall.
By marking an average and even score of 3.00 strokes on par three holes, junior Madelynn Swank turned in a third round mark of 81. After finishing the first day with rounds of 84 and 81, the Clarendon Hill, Ill. native finished tied for 33rd place with a final score of 245, +29.
Freshman Jessica Madry competed in her second event of the fall season, and finished 37th overall at the Kzoo Classic. In the third round, the native of Houston, Texas marked 11 pars, and went even in par 5 scoring in route to a final round score of 83. Madry totaled a mark of 247, +31 at the event in which she competed in the team lineup for the first time in her collegiate career.
Participating individually for the Falcons was sophomore Sarah Kern, who shaved off strokes for her lowest round of the tournament on Tuesday afternoon. In the process of carding a third round score of 80, Kern notched 11 pars and ultimately tied for 38th overall with a final score of 248, +32.
The Bowling Green women's golf program will resume action in fall competition on Oct. 17 and Oct. 18 as it travels to Kettering, Ohio to participate in the Dayton Fall Invitational.
