Eleven of the 12 players on the BGSU active roster scored in the game, led by  sophomore Carly Santoro. Santoro had nine points and tied for team honors with seven rebounds. Senior Ashley Tunstall and sophomore Sydney Lambert scored eight points apiece, while junior Haley Puk had six.
Senior Abby Siefker had seven rebounds to tie Santoro for the team lead, and the center also paced the Falcons with three assists.
For the Hokies, Samantha Hill led the way with 21 points. Five of her teammates hit double figures as well, with Chanette Hicks scoring 17 points and Vanessa Panousis 15.
Virginia Tech went 13-of-26 from three-point range in the win, led by five triples from Hill and four by Panousis.
The Falcons got off to a quick start, taking an early 12-5 lead. Siefker's first assist of the day came on BG's opening possession, when she kicked the ball out to Tunstall for a long two-pointer. Panousis hit a corner three, but Lambert faked a three-point try, took two dribbles and knocked down a foul-line jumper.
Moments later, Puk was fouled on a drive and split her free-throw tries to begin an 8-0 run for the Brown and Orange. Santoro scored back-to-back layups that resulted from her work at the defensive end. First, she corralled a long defensive rebound and quickly raced downcourt ahead of the other nine players for a layup and a 7-5 lead.
Then, Santoro poked the ball away from Hill for a steal, got the ball back and scored off glass after a nifty drive and spin move. When Lambert knocked down a three-point try, the Falcons had a 12-5 lead. BG went 5-for-7 from the floor to begin the game.
The Hokies got within two points on a long trey by Panousis, but Lambert came right back with a three-pointer of her own for a 15-10 Falcon lead. After Tech tied the score on a Kaela Kinder three and a transition layup by Hicks, Puk scored a third-chance bucket. After grabbing an offensive board, she hit a driving layup for a 17-15 lead.
Late in the quarter, Santoro got a three-point try to go, and the Falcosn led by a 20-18 count after 10 minutes.
But, from then on, it was all Hokies. Hicks found Hill for a corner three, then spotted Sidney Cook for a fast-break layup, and the hosts had a 23-20 lead. Cook then converted a three-point play, and Regan Magarity's putback made it a 28-20 game.
After another Magarity bucket, Lambert found Tunstall in traffic for a layup that snapped Tech's 12-0 run, and moments later, a spinning 'and-1' layup by Rachel Myers was part of a three-point play for the junior that cut the home team's lead to 34-25.
But, back-to-back threes were followed by a Hicks layup, and after freshman Andrea Cecil banked home a shot after a drive, Kendyl Brooks hit her second-straight three-ball. A pair of late free throws gave Tech a 47-27 lead at the half. The Hokies were 4-for-6 from three-point range in that second quarter.
Tunstall hit a putback early in the third quarter, and Puk fed Siefker for a layup before hitting a three-pointer with a defender in her face, but the Hokies pulled away. Tech led, 70-39, after the third quarter, and extended the lead to a game-high 49 points before freshman Jane Uecker's jumper closed the scoring.
Myers and Uecker had four points apiece, while sophomore Maddie Cole and freshman Clare Glowniak scored three each and Siefker, Cecil and freshman Caterrion Thompson two.
Magarity had 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Hokies, while Cook also had a double-double, with 12 points and a game-high 13 boards. The hosts shot 54 percent from the field for the game and held a 46-37 rebounding advantage. BG was out-rebounded for just the second time in this season's 10 games.
The Falcons now take a break for fall semester exams before returning to action next weekend. BG will head to Brookings, S.D., for a matchup against South Dakota State University next Sunday (Dec. 18). Then, the Brown and Orange will begin a four-game homestand on Wednesday, Dec. 21, against Cleveland State.
