Final Results
Oxford, OH – The Bowling Green State University Falcons finished their 2016-17 midseason meet in fourth place at the Miami RedHawks' 23rd Annual Invitational with a 507.5 final score.
The Falcons competed for three days against Denison, Emory, Indiana, Milwaukee, Missouri-St. Louis, Urbana and Washington University-St. Louis. The orange and brown finished day one of the meet in second place. The team fell to fourth place on day two and stayed there through the rest of the meet.
The third and final day of the meet started with the 1650 freestyle event, in which junior Natalie Criswell recorded a time of 17:01.28 to place 7th in the event. Sophomore, Mary Edwards placed 23rd in a time of 17:41.84. Just behind Edwards was Hannah Albion, who stopped the clock at 17:45.12 to place 24th in the event. Freshman, Meghan Burnard was not too far behind as she finished 27th, touching the wall at 18:22.38.
The 200 backstroke event had two Falcons in the A final. Elodie Schreiber and Maya Skorupski, who are both upperclassmen, finished fifth and eight respectively. Schreiber stopped the clock at 2:00.47, while Skorupski touched the wall at 2:02.55. Also an upperclassman, Maria Galic represented the orange and brown in the B final of the same event. Galic placed 12th with a time of 2:02.25.
The 100 freestyle had one Falcon in the B final, Hannah Paris. The freshman touched the wall at 51.92, which placed her 14th in the event. Three other Falcons swam in the C final and Megan Larson was the first of them to stop the clock. The sophomore touched the wall at 52.33, which earned her a tie for 21st place. Maria Galic and Rachel Resch finished 24th and 25th respectively. Galic touched the wall at 52.93, only two one-hundreds of a second behind her was Resch, recording a 52.95.
Two Falcons represented the orange and brown in the 200 breaststroke event. Senior, Kristin Filby and sophomore, Emily Verbrugge competed in the A and the B final respectively. Filby stopped the clock at 2:17.28, which was almost two seconds faster than her preliminary time and moved her up to sixth position. Verbrugge finished the event in a time of 2:20.36, which placed her 13th in the event.
The final individual event of the night was the 200 butterfly. A total of five orange caps were seen in the finals, including Danica Garbett who won the B final and placed 10th in the event. The freshman stopped the clock at a time of 2:05.34, which was over a second faster than her preliminary time. Right next to Garbett was fellow teammate Jessica Green, who is also a freshman. Green touched the wall at a time of 2:07.28 and placed 13th in the event. Senior, Hannah Albion placed 23rd with a time of 2:12.26. Freshmen, Rachel Resch and Meghan Burnard placed 24th and 26th respectively, with Resch recording a time of 2:13.66 and Burnard touching the wall at 2:17.98.
The last event of the meet was the 400 freestyle relay, in which the Falcons recorded a time of 3:25.62 to place fourth in the event. The A team for the orange and brown was composed by Maria Galic, Maya Skorupski, Megan Larson and Hannah Paris. The Falcons' splits were 51.83, 51.92, 51.04 and 50.83 respectively. The Falcons' B team, composed by Resch, Fergus, Garbett and Filby placed 12th in the event with a 3:34.93 final time.
