BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced Tuesday (Dec. 6) morning that two seniors on the Bowling Green State University volleyball team – libero Madeline Garda and outside hitter Jelena Sunjic – were named to the All-Northeast Region Team. The pair becomes the third and fourth players in program history to be named to the team..
Caty Rommeck (1991) and Tammy Schiller (1990, 1991) are the only other players in BGSU history to garner the top honor. Bowling Green has never had two selections in one season. AVCA All-American selections will be announced Dec. 16.
"This is such a big honor, not just for Jelena and Madeline, but also for our program," said head coach Danijela Tomic. "To be selected among the top 14 players in one of the toughest volleyball regions in the country speaks volumes about the caliber of players that Madeline and Jelena are. I am just so happy that their hard work, commitment, leadership and love for their team was recognized and rewarded at the national level."
