Akron, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University indoor track and field team placed eighth at the Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, scoring 39 points at the two-day meet. Both the team finish and team point totals were the most for the program since 2011. As well, freshman Jade Nolan was named the MAC's Freshman Field Performer of the Year.
Nolan placed fifth at the MAC Championships in the triple jump Saturday just a day after placing 12th in the long jump. She was one of three Falcons to earn a spot on the podium in the triple jump with a leap of 39-feet-5.75. She jumped 18-7.25 in the long jump Friday.
Saturday started strong as Raven Porter finished third in the long jump. She cleared her first three heights on her opening attempt and closed the day out by leaping 5-8.5.
Aliyah Gustafson and Makenzie Wheat both placed in the shot put. Gustafson had a best throw of 50-7.25, which put her in fifth place, while Wheat tossed the apparatus 49-3 to end sixth. The two provided seven points to the team's total score.
While Nolan finished fifth in the triple jump, Tiera Parker placed one spot ahead of her with a leap of 39-6 on her final attempt. Kyla Paster rounded out the Falcons' strong efforts with a jump of 38-4 to finish eighth.
On the track, BGSU added to the point total. Alicia Arnold raced to a fourth place finish in the 200 and a fifth place spot in the 60. Her time of 24.24 seconds in the 200 was a new personal best, while she ran 7.56 in the 60, just .03 seconds shy of her career fastest.
BGSU closed out the meet by scoring one point in the 1600 relay with a time of 3:49.13 to place eighth.
"We had some really positive things happen today and yesterday," BGSU head coach Lou Snelling said. "We have a lot to build on for the outdoor season. We will carry this momentum from our individual accomplishments into the outdoor season to take that next step."
The team's 39 points were four more than a year ago and the most since the 2011 team scored 45 points. No Falcon team had placed better than the team's eighth place finish since a sixth place finish in 2001.
The team will return to work and begin the outdoor season on March 25 at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C.
