Raleigh, N.C. – Coming off of the best indoor season in the Lou Snelling era, the Bowling Green State University track and field team will lift the lift on the 2016 outdoor season this weekend at the Raleigh Relays, hosted by North Carolina State. The meet begins Friday at 9 am and continues Saturday at 10 am.
BGSU will be represented at the Raleigh Relays by all position groupings as the Falcons kick-start the outdoor campaign. The team will look to build upon the momentum gathered during indoor season when student-athletes posted a school record 17 automatic qualifying marks to the MAC Championship. The Falcons broke one school record and had 18 total performances that rank among the top five in an event in BGSU history.
During the indoor season, the Falcons thrived in the jumps. Seven of the 32 MAC automatic qualifiers in the triple jump, long jump and high jump were BGSU student-athletes and Jade Nolan was named the MAC Freshmen Field Performer of the Year. High jumper Raven Porter earned a MAC Field Athlete of the Week nod as well.
"We are excited to get the outdoor season underway this weekend," Snelling said. "After a solid indoor season, we want to continue to make progress towards the MAC Championships and the postseason."
A year ago at the Raleigh Relays, Bowling Green opened the outdoor season with an impressive showing Makenzie Wheat placed second in the shot put and she is scheduled to compete in the event again this year. The team earned 10 top 10 finishes at the meet, which is one of the largest and strongest meets of the weekend.
