Men’s Golf Cards a Final Round of 283 on Tuesday

White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia – The Bowling Green State University men's golf team tied for the third lowest team score over the final round of play on Tuesday with a 283, +3, to climb up six spots on the team leaderboard and finish in ninth-place overall with a 54-hole score of 880, +40, at the third annual Greenbrier Collegiate Invitational held at the par-70 Old White TP course at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
Bowling Green carded rounds of 294, 303 and 283 to finish the three-round event with a score of 880, +40. The Falcons finished just 10 strokes out of the top-five and placed in front of Old Dominion (881), Middle Tennessee State (881), Delaware (882), Northern Kentucky (882), William & Mary (885), Western Carolina (890), Siena (895) and St. Bonaventure (904).
"I thought we responded very well today after our effort yesterday," commented head coach Kevin Farrell. "Across the board our lineup played well today. They stayed focused and played a full 18 holes of golf. Now we got to get ourselves ready both mentally and physically for the MAC Championships in a few weeks."
For the third consecutive round, Brett Rinker carded a BGSU low score, as the junior shot a 69, -1 under par, on Tuesday to finish in a tie for seventh overall with his 54-hole score of 213, +3. Rinker recorded rounds of 70, 74 and 69 over the two days of play, which included a team-high eight birdies and 35 pars.
Posting a final round of 72, +2, on Tuesday was Jose Narro. With rounds of 73, 74 and 72, Narro placed in a tie for 24th-place overall with his 54-hole score of 219, +9. The junior was more consistent over the third round of play on Tuesday to finish the two-day event with five birdies and 35 pars overall.
Shooting a final round of 71, +1, was both Pablo Heredia Iglesias and Cameron Michalak. Heredia Iglesias finished with rounds of 74, 78 and 71 for a combined three round score of 223, +13, good enough to finish in a tie for 47th overall. Michalak registered rounds of 77, 77 and 71 to finish in a tie for 64th overall with his 54-hole score of 225, +15. Heredia Iglesias carded four birdies and 35 pars, while Michalak totaled five birdies and 32 pars over the 54-hole event.
Freshman Trey Walker shot his best round of the tournament on Tuesday with a score of 76, +6, after shooting a second round 78, +8, on Monday afternoon. With his disqualification due to a scorecard error after the first round of play on Monday, Walker finished in 89th overall.
East Tennessee State ran away from the field to earn the team title with a 54-hole team score of 846, +6. Eastern Kentucky (861) held on to edge Western Kentucky (866) for second-place overall, while the Hilltoppers took third.
Morehead State's Thomas DeMarco made a hole-in-one on the par-3 hole No. 3 on Tuesday.
The Falcons will now set their sights on the 2016 MAC Men's Golf Championships hosted by BGSU on April 28-30 at the Highland Meadows Golf Course in Sylvania, Ohio.
