Columbus, Ohio – Coming off of a strong weekend at the Ball State Challenge, the Bowling Green State University track and field team will compete at the Jesse Owens Track and Field Classic, hosted by Ohio State, Friday and Saturday.
Â
BGSU set 23 personal bests at Ball State and improved seeding for the MAC Championships in a lot of areas.
Â
"We took some nice steps in a lot of different areas," BGSU Track and Field Coach Lou Snelling said. "But we still have a lot of work to do. It came from a lot of athletes who are on the periphery of scoring points at the MAC Championships. That's extremely important to us and it came in a lot of different areas."
Â
The Falcons will look to use that momentum to continue progressing forward this weekend. In fact, Bowling Green used the Jesse Owens meet a year ago to springboard into the latter half of the season. BGSU broke two school records (in the 400 relay and the hammer throw) on the way to one of the more successful weekends of the year.
Â
"We had a really nice weekend there last year," Snelling said. "We walked away with a lot of good performances, so there's some confidence. It's one of those meets that you know is going to be a really solid meet with a lot of MAC schools and some Big Ten competition as well."
Â
This weekend, the Falcons will be limited in the middle and distance events (with only Cassandra Boyle entered in the 800 among that group) but will compete heavily in the sprints, jumps, relays and throws.
